Usually not worth it. I would read reviews, or even put the make and model on here and ask for opinions from people who have them.

I have concluded that an extended warranty is useful for complex equipment (such as an induction cooktop) where the cost of repair approximates the cost of a new unit. I treat it as a cooktop rental cost. An electronically and mechanically complex automobile might be another candidate.

Ultimately, the price you pay plus the price of the implied DIY warranty provided by "self insurance" needs to be affordable, or at least acceptable, to make the other value aspects of the equipment shift the balance from walk-away to purchase.

To the OP: you wrote "cafe", which to many folks will not sound like an appliance manufacturer. "GE Cafe" would work better: give the actual maker's name, and capitalize it. (It is made by GE, after all.)

Café Appliances website (of which the domain name is cafeappliances.com, not gecafeappliances.com) refers to the brand as Café, not GE Café. There's only a passing mention of GE being the parent company, in the page footers. One must look further into the site links to find additional mention of GE. Also, as you may know, Haier bought GE appliances division in 2016, so Haier technically is now the parent company.

I did that when I purchased some appliances nine years ago. Never used it other than to get the appliance company to take responsibility for incorrectly installing the refrigerator door. And yeah, GE/Haier specifically rebranded GE Cafe as Cafe.
