depending on the pattern you choose, I'd fill the space... is the inspo the pattern you want to go with? What pattern of paper did you have in mind for the living room? the whole wall or the whole room? what furniture style are you using?

I don't see what you get by adding a lot of molding around the stairs -- it will emphasize that area and make it more formal, I guess. Why not just hang some art on the walls and not worry about it? Does it clash with the living space, or why do you feel it needs separation? Is there a foyer here that serves as a functional unit? Can you show the living space?

I think it looks pretty good the way it is. This isn't something I would want to spend money on, but you do you. I agree with acm that you just need some art.

Thank you so much! There is no foyer so the front door opens right into that room, it’s a lot of the same color and we didn’t know how to break it up as it goes from the front door all the way up to the upstairs hallway because it’s sort of one space now in that regard .. art is a great idea!

I’d wallpaper the whole room, I don’t think it’s quite large enough for an accent wall. Our furniture style is traditional but with a coastal sort of vibe- white couch, rattan chairs, wood / mahogany coffee table and end tables, brass sconces
