Roof and Gutters Color Help

last year

Hi!! We have to pick roof, gutter, drip edge, and fascia colors for our repairs and I’m at a loss. I want to go bold with the change and looking at onyx black or black sable for the shingles. Gutters and downspouts are currently close to an almond color but wondering if changing those to gray or black or bronze would work here too? Ideally I would change the whole color palate of the house but we didn’t get full siding approved so that color has to stay. But I want a big change that would look good on my 20 year home. I love the farmhouse look but with a craftsman base haha. Thank you!

^Agree. Your current roof color works nicely. Black can be harsh/severe. I also agree with gutters being utilitarian and look best when blended in. I like your current siding color that seems to work with the stone. Have you ever considered painting the garage door the same color? It would pull less focus since it’s up front. It can be nice to have your front door/entry pull more focus than the garage.

I don't understand the black roof fad. A black roof will attract and hold a lot of heat. Unless you live in a very cold climate this is undesirable for a good part of the year. And as the other commenters said, it is not the right color for your house anyway.

A medium gray shingle goes with most colors on a house’s exterior, so I usually recommend that color. (Especially when you may change the exterior color in the future.) Timberline has an easy visualizer you can experiment with. A black roof will look very severe with this house.

Don’t use black for the utilitarian parts of your house. Gutters and leaders and their ilk are a boring necessity. Keep those elements neutral (I.e. light colored) so they aren’t noticeable.

I looked to see if there were any similar color homes with the trim a shade darker than siding instead of a shade lighter:

This color combo works with the slightly darker trim and grey roof.

I will say I saw a few with very dark roof and or very dark windows and that look didn't work for me. For example, here with black windows and downspouts? Looks out of place.

IMO gutters need to blend with the house color they are not design elements that need to stand out but serve a purpose so as invisible as possible . I aslo do not think a black roof work with your home and the brick . The hous eis already a bit confused keep the rest simple .

This is my inspiration pic. I get that we don’t have black windows but I think this roof is black. I appreciate the feedback on the gutters and I agree and thing we should keep the gutters and fascia the almond color it already is

Can’t edit that last post but wondering we can turn my house into the inspiration house. Really the main difference I see is the dark roof and garage doors. Not sure if I want to do black garage doors since we just painted them this summer a color to match the trim. And I found out our siding color is savannah wicker if anyone has a couple photos with that as a siding color and roof combo. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Going with Onyx Black or Black Sable shingles is a great way to give your home a bold, modern look while keeping it timeless. If your siding has warm tones, bronze gutters add contrast without feeling too harsh, while black gutters and fascia create a clean, contemporary look. A softer option is dark gray, which blends well but still adds some contrast. Since you’re aiming for a farmhouse-craftsman mix, pairing dark roofing with bronze or gray trim could help tie everything together nicely.
