Beautiful home! I wouldn't add any more stone on the garage and the window looks great! I think doing stone on bottom of garage might accentuate more that the window above is not quite centered between the lower windows there. Not sure what plant zone you are located but when budget allows consider a flowering small tree (hydrangea) or holly that could go between garage windows to have some height there with plant interest.

Perhaps some Pro's will chime in with their take on the aesthetics. Good luck!

I agree with HU918... That being said, consider installing sont on the bottom half where the stone is on the dormer as it will balance the entrance stone and look like a stone "barn".

@HU-918119203 Thank you for your observation and opinion. When we had the stone installed up there suggested by the mason that did the front of the house we thought it was a good idea not even considering what you wrote about the heaviness of the stone over the wood. You’re right that most people might think it’s a good idea without giving it much thought. After it was done I thought it looked fine.
But when we were having the house sided I was on this site to ask for ideas about the siding and someone commented that the stone over the garage looked strange and should not be there.
I tried to make my husband understand but he said no because he likes it. But it’s bothered me ever since.
I think I’ll have to keep it up there for now because I’m going to have to try to convince my husband that it’s better off.
If not I hope it doesn’t look too strange. I think putting the stone on the bottom half is going to look too heavy. So it’s either going to stay up or maybe he’ll let the siding go there instead. We both like historical style homes and if the stone wasn’t up there I think it would look more like that. Thank you again.

The stone is an accent. You accented the front door with stone. Since the builder already accented the dormer using the same curved window I think it is fitting to have the stone accenting both windows.

I wouldn't want to accent the side of the garage.

Most people won't think about the weight of real stone, we are all accustomed to seeing veneers.

The house is really lovely as is, very pleasing to the eye. I would put money into better landscaping around the foundation. You will get much more bang for your buck.🙂

@Jennifer Hogan Thank you Jennifer because you really made me feel better about the way it looks like it is. You gave a good point.

It almost always looks odd to have stone on a higher part of a house without having stone on the lower portion. My suggestion is to remove the stone on the garage and replace with siding to match the lower portion.

IMO the stone above the garge is all wrong and if mine I would remove it and add matching siding there and I would also change that window . The entry to the home is the star all else takes a back seat. I see no walkway from the sreet to the front door some IMO not a very welcoming entry to the home so when doing landscaping (you need lots) remember to have the entry look like the place guests are lead to.

I personally would like to take the stone off on the garage part and install siding. That makes the most sense and would be accurate. My husband is resistant. I think I have to live with it a bit longer or forever. I’m not sure.
As far as the landscaping on our home everything is dormant now. When the spring comes we have a very full and colorful landscape. What you see is just the evergreens all trimmed but once the spring comes it’s a bountiful of perennial colors coming up at different times so there’s always something good going on.
The walkway to the house isn’t visible in the photo I posted.
The photo was taken from the street so I can show the full house for the advice.
It was taken in February in NY so nothing looks very pretty then. Winter time.
It’s a very beautiful walkway made of natural stone as well as the driveway.
The walkway leading to the house is very cozy and inviting but you can’t see it from that photo. There’s also a bench made of two big rocks and bluestone by the front entrance. It’s really beautiful.
Our landscaping was designed by a professional landscape designer well know in this area with blueprints and names of plants and trees etc.
I’m only writing this about the landscaping because several people commented on it being bland and not attractive.
Now it’s March and I see things starting to come alive again.

Stop agonizing over it. Your home looks lovely and I willing to bet 99.99% of the people coming to your home or driving by are not even noticing the stone.

I have a friend who is a roofer and points out every other roof and tells me what is wrong with it. I sometimes see what he is talking about, but half the time, even when he is pointing something out I don't see what he sees. It looks like a roof.

I went to the grocery store with my sister on Saturday morning. She noticed that Breakstone Sour Cream packaging changed, but she worked in consumer insights and packaging for 40 years.

You are posting this on a site with a lot of designers and architects who are have a very discriminatory eye. They know all the rules and study the rules and notice when rules are broken. The 99.9% of the people who are not designers will not see what they see and will see a lovely home.

I would love to see some pictures when it is in full bloom!
