Do you need heat or UV control ? I like drapes for a finished look often but in this case wait until the space is finished with art or if the TV goes on the wall in front of the sofa set that space up first . That will help figure out the drapes . I always like drapes to be able to be full even when closed so usually 2.5 x the width of the rod min.

The shades take care of heat and UV. The shades will stay, but I keep seeing these side rods everywhere, and wasn't sure if I should just do a side bar on each side of the door, and a rod, or a matching side bar set for above the window. I'm thinking of throwing a very narrow console behind the dining table, and then art or a mirror above that. TV arrives in a few weeks.

The room needs some texture. I'd add panels to the windows in white.

I'd create an all-white room. See below how texture is added to a room.

I would do a solid rod across the entire span, but with non-functional drapery panels on each side.

With the rods, what color and size would you do? And would you go with decorative finials, or just basic caps?

I love the white on white idea! What material would you use for the curtains? Down in Florida, everything seems lighter and airier, but I think sheers just would not work.
