How elederly? Are either in a wheelchair or use a walker ? Is this going to be for a permanent space ? Many things need to be considered if aging in place is going to be a must.

Aging in place is complex. Get a person with universal design experience onboard your project and perhaps consult with an occupational therapist too. You'll need space to move freely with a variety of mobility aids, no flooring transitions, non-slip surfaces, excellent lighting and plenty of weight bearing grab bars in logical places-stepping in and stepping out places, bidet feature is good in a toilet, plus room for a caregiver to assist at the toilet and shower.

Thank you. Both are in their 70s. Yes, a permanent situation. Both can walk without a wheelchair, but this renovation is intended for our ground floor, because stairs are not an option.

It will probably cost less to sell and move, than to do this addition.
