Should -- not fussy about soil. Mine is above the nearby flood areas, but the soil is still heavy and wet w/a high water table. Silvics manual says:

Best growth is on moderately acid soils with imperfect to poor surface

drainage, a thick medium-textured surface layer, and a fine-

textured subsoil. These soils are common in the uplands of the

Atlantic Plain and on the flood plains and terraces of rivers and

streams.

plant high.. so it can send its roots where it wants it ... this avoids the transplant as the kill event.. rather than the soil itself

In my experience they more often then not, grow in seasonally wet habitats, should be fine I would think.
