1. What mirror or sonething different would you replace the black mirror with? Or would you keep the black one?

2. Do you think the stained glass arches need a middle piece to complete it and if so what should it be? Or is it fine without a middle piece?

Indicate

1 or 2 when answering each question.

Thank you for any ideas you may provide.

    Post more pics please.

I feel claustrophobic looking at this room. I'd remove the arches entirely. The black mirror is off but I need to see more of the room to know why and what to replace it with.

We need a lot more pictures from all angles and farther back. Your table and china are a matched set--but the white corner cabinet and the other tall 'credenza' are there because???? Are they antiques/family pieces? The arches are a modern twist on ginger bread one used to see in turn of the 1900s. Are they stained glass? The mirror is for sure not large enough, but changing it for art or larger mirror is impossible to tell at this point. The chandy also is not working from what I can see. Are you going for a colonial vibe?

The mirror is not reflecting anything nice, replace it with a painting. The arches? I don't know. Give us a better picture from further back if you can. I could be wrong but is that a hallway between the arches and the staircase?

The arches add nothing. The country style (too small) chandelier and built in corner cupboard, are competing with WAY too much dark and heavy furniture.

The mirror is too small and reflects nothing. Use art, a much larger piece, or a series of prints.

As to the looming china cabinet? It is choking the room. Perhaps remove the top, and store the contents. If you love a mirror? An appropriate size and that's the spot, and flank it with lamps.

Can't comment beyond that from one view of the space, other than I'd have a hard time relaxing for a meal, as I'd be feeling a bit claustrophobic: )

Nix the mirror get a nice piece of art there and get rid of some of the stuff that makes the space feel crammed . I have no idea what the arches are for and honestly taking the top off that huge cabinet and a new chandelier would be ahuge improvement .

There should be a bigger mirror.

Take away the arches. They only add clutter to the space

Select art for the back wall in place of the mirror

The chandelier is too small for the room. Replace it with a larger one in brass.

Are you wed to having all three storage pieces in this space? Can you remove even one of them or rearrange them?

The arches are stained glass my husband made for me as I requested. Their purpose is to section off the entryway/staircase from the dining room. Those will not be coming down. They have a base that goes to the floor.

Any photo and chandelier sample photos would be appreciated. Will probably get rid of the corner cabinet. On the left are windows and that is the buffet which goes with the table and china cabinet.

Where can I get the picture and chandelier you posted?

I like the stainglass - adds character. I'd be tempted to move the china cabinet to the wall where the mirror is and the side board to where the china cabinet is now. (only if the corner cabinet is moved). Then put a large piece of art above the sideboard. Then turn your table. It'll open up the window end of the room and give an airy feel. Or move the sideboard to the mirror wall. I just find the table looks a bit squished between the two large pieces of furniture - might not be in real life

Thank you for your very helpful positive suggestions. I agree the arches add character. I dont lean toward “cookie cutter” room design.

BeverlyFLADeziner thank you for your great recomnendations.

I think the challenge that people have sometimes is that they think ”a matching set” is going to look good automatically, but these pieces are all very large. here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.housebeautiful.com/design-inspiration/a38768801/dont-buy-matching-furniture-sets-opinion/ i would consider selling the china cabinet.

I would follow Beverley’s design, but leave the arches. I think your room is quite charming.

I'd add some color to the room. Dining rooms are great places to add a beautiful wall covering.

Hi, I believe the wall art is from Ballard Designs.

There is very little in the cabinet so I would remove the top and give yourself some breathing room.

I am practicing my image search skills after seeing so many here who are so good at it.

I tried to find the chandelier that you were asking about- suggested by Beverly.

The best I can do is possibly:

It looks like the first one but not so huge and rather pricey

Not sure it's any of those but maybe someone else will have better skills.

Thank you all for your suggesrions. I will keep the arches and will definitely replace the mirror with art. I’ll probably replace the chandelier and get rid of the corner cabinet. I will be keeping the three dark pieces of furniture. I’m debating on the best placement for those pieces as well as the art. Thats what I need help with. I’m leaning toward keeping the entire china cabinet because it’s full of a complete set of china and I like it. Need to also decide on the art—type, size and placement.

I would not add a-middle section..and instead of a mirror I would do a piece of art..bring in some color and frame it in gold you have alot of dark wood.
