Design Dilemma Woodworking Remodeling

How would you design this staircase?

I need to accept that this is an outdated tri-level. But, I also want it to be as pretty as possible. What would you do? Wood beams and wood columns? White everything? Iron stair balusters?

I’ve been looking at this too long and need fresh perspective.

How far are you planning on going with the modernization? A more modern railing would look great, but it looks like you also need to replace your front door (if it's the front door which is visible in the second picture). What do the rest of the doors in the house look like? What do the baseboards look like? It's a when you give a mouse a cookie scenario - when you change one thing there will be at least three other things that then need to be changed. I have at least two dozen stair pictures saved because we changed our railing last year. Here are some of them - tell us which one appeals to you. Since there is no furniture in sight I am not sure what your style is. What color are the floors going to be when finished?
