Converting the dining room to a bedroom would not work with this floorplan. First, the bathroom is too far away, second, how would you enter the bedroom? A better choice would be to convert the family room into a bedroom and perhaps a study and then make the dining room into a family room.

Definitely not a bedroom. Even if you had walls/ doors, it wouldn’t have any privacy or access to a bathroom. I would turn into a study/ library.

You might want to look into the legality of doing this and would a permit be required.

Sounds silly with no bathroom even clse to the bedroom . I have a 3200 sq ft house with 3 bedrooms never needed more and for sure not in the main area of the house next to the LR ever. The oantry is small and I guess if tyou never plan to have adinner party use the space for an office or whatever but not a bedroom. Why do you think this size house needs 5 bedrooms. edrooms in a home are the number you need for your life . If you are planning this for reslae STOP right now.

You didn't say why you need a fifth bedroom. If you don't need one then it really doesn't make sense to make a change like this. If it's for resale, how do you know a prospective buyer wouldn't walk away because there isn't a separate dining room? In any case, it doesn't work with your floorplan. If you need a home office that is a real possibility. Put French doors on both openings and then the next person can use it as a dining room again if they want to.

Agree. Keep it flexible. Put in the wall with doors to the living room and a door to the kitchen. Furnish the room as a den with a pullout sofa and a bookshelf. Then, the room can be a bedroom when needed, a study, an office, a library or just a great place to take a nap.
