It saves space and makes moving things in and out easier. Who the heck would think that's a plus??

Front or side entry garage?

I am not in favor of the half garage.

I agree with your husband. It will look odd to have a half door. I would leave off the door. Doing so also gains a bit of wall space to store stuff. While it might feel like a hassle to have to move a car out of the way when you need to get something bigger out, I am guessing that it won't be that frequent and that you'll be fine. Adding a half door would make it look like a storage unit to me.

Is it on the end? The front can be sided like the rest of garage front and house, and two swing doors on the side for access to the items.

The half stall will definitly be there for storage. The garage door would be a standard size for one car - my husband’s concern being that you would not actually be able to park a car inside. The front of the garage will either have 3 garage doors, or two with room for a third - with that third stall area either being blank or possibly having a window. But the garage will not face the road; it’s on the side of the house.

What do most comparable houses in your area have for garages? If most houses have 3 garage bays, then I would rework the plan to increase that 1/2 bay to a full bay ... then do 3 garage doors.

Yes, that’s correct. I’m glad to hear you see it often. I have no idea whether it’s common in our area. It would look like a full 3 stall garage from the outside.

I misunderstood. If it's a standard width, then definitely do a garage door. If possible, I would look into whether you can make it a full depth standard stall. The extra space will be useful for you to use that storage, and will help with resale. The extra cost to add that type of square footage is just not very much.

A three car garage with three single garage doors will give you a lot of flexibility without adding much expense, depending on the design.

If you ever have to start the snowblower inside the garage in order to blow your way out, I think you’ll like a garage door a lot better than a person door for that.

You building for you all to live in for to sell? If selling is in the plans down the road, think about it then.
