Can you provide photos? And where in the world you might be growing this shrub? (geographic location, not just zone)

In the meantime, I realize it was a false identity. It is actually an Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel, purchased from Lowe's about 10 years ago. It was GORGEOUS and had very aromatic flowers 1 or 2 years. Then we had extreme heat and extreme cold, and it died. We pruned it to the ground, planning to remove, but by the next spring, new growth was coming up. However, when about 1/4 of the full grown size, the leaves started turning brown, and it developed what looked like powdery mildew. I sprayed the affected branches repeatedly, with no good results. Picture of foliage attached. Next msg will hopefully have the diseased limb. Thanks for any and all ideas...we hate to have to replace!!

The "mildew" is both on the stem, and on the inside of this branch I broke off.
