paint, plants and pool

Hello! We love our new place, but not so in love with beige. Suggestions for how we could paint & spice up the exterior? We’d love to keep the brick part.

And also looking for photo inspo and ideas for a small pool & landscaping. Thank you!!!

Speaking from my own experience, defer the paint & plants if you’re doing the pool anytime soon.

@k Lawrence - we may do paint, pool, plants all together, so collecting cohesive ideas now. Thanks!

Okay, so I would recommend painting & planting AFTER the pool is done, or at least almost done.

you cant put in a pool and landscaping at the same time. the pool building process will destroy everything else in your yard.

Hi folks, to clarify: I’m hoping to plan out the whole vision:

    Pool, paint, plants.

Then we’ll do the pool / deck / patio first, then paint, then do plants.

Hoping to pull together ideas first, so we can plan the pool and design with the future paint & style in mind.

Open to ideas for all three right now, but promise not to plant first ;)

Landscape-wise, something like this would be nice:

    Some thoughts:

--Build a lap pool since you have such a long yard.

--Take your palette for hardscaping--poured concrete, stone, or pavers, from the brick chimney. Notice the brick foundation on this house--very similar to yours. The hardscaping around the pool echoes the brick.

--Here's the palette for your house--creamy ivory with taupe trim. There's a reason there are so many light houses in California, Arizona, Florida when there are pools. Light colors reflect sunlight. If you want a California vibe, then a deep cream is the way to go with that chimney.

--Add a shade pergolo in wood along the length of the house up to the sliding glass door for sitting under dappled sun and shade,--something like this along the back but stained in a cedar stain.

--Then plan your landscaping in a bed along the fence with a mix of the current trees that are already there and a high and low shrubs so you're looking at greenery across the pool. Hate to be a spoilsport here, but don't you need to fence in the pool, or will the current fencing do the job?

@Courtney: the reason the pros are telling you to wait on house color is you have to decide on your pool--some have dark "tubs;" which makes the pool water dark looking. Others are the more usual light tubs with turquoise water. The pool water reflections, light or dark, will effect the paint color of the house. In winter, the pool will be covered, so a light warm cream with golden stone/poured cement will contrast with pool covering. Think about staining the wood fence a warm cedar color before any planting.

Examples of dark pool tub and light tub pool. Because they reflect sunlight differently, that affects house paint color. So pool tub color is the first choice to make before house color.

Decking: I chose photos that had golden stone decking since it echoes your chimney. Also, Patricia's idea of a wood deck along the house side is worth considering and stain all your wood fencing the same shade. I still like a stained overhead wood pergola overhead on house side for light shade.

This palette in pavesr, stone, or poured cement would pair well with your chimney.

Some tiles/stones really heat up in the sun so choose a material that won’t burn bare feet.🙂

Off white palettes. Again, decide on pool tub and decking color before choosing house color. Coordinate with chimney.

Off white is good. What about a pale blue? with darker off white trim.

I find this house color a bit bland considering the exotic pool, but I do love the pool!

I like the colour of your house it's the surroundings that make it look blah... You can install a wood pergola for contrast with the house, dark pavers, grass, landscaping and pool and all that put together will give an entire different look to the colour of your house. Something like in my visual below placed parallel to back of the house.
