What are you doing Monday 42224

So, what is up this week?

Do you know snakes look friendlier if you knit them a little hat.

You never know what is real.

I am going to fix my chairs this week. My new one cost the same as the one from 12 years ago. Old one is like being in a tank. room for everything plus me on the seat and sun coverage galore. New one is like sitting in a smart car. Only room for me on the seat and no real sun coverage. Time to get busy.

Have a great day. Off to water hostas. Deep soak morning. I'll be back.

If you get that rain we had Saturday, there will be no need for soaking. I think we were "blessed" with about 4". It poured all day.

the world is full of “fake” photos isn’t it?..
    a beautiful day..

    Great Expectations..

Empress Wu is growing much better in the new location..I’m excited about it!..

I think I have damage from cold temperatures on lots of hosta..but I’m not going to stress about it..

bkay I got none of the rain that you got. I watched the news they said any minute, but it all headed north. I did get cooler temps, which is ok, as it allowed me to be outside longer. The hostas this year are doing real good. I had been worried on a few that last year did a releaf after the heat broke and that there would be no energy for this year. Suprise and more surprises to come. Photos to follow.

I don’t know…. I’m not sure I’d think a snake with a hat was friendly. Instead I’d think it was trying too hard to gain my trust. 😉

bkay, I can’t imagine what 4” of rain would look like! I hope your ground soaked it up happily.

Debra, that’s too bad they had to cut the 1929 cast iron tub into pieces. I know some people love those old tubs. But what a lot of weight on your floor!

And that’s great you were able to trap to be neutered that stray cat. He’ll have a better life not wandering far and getting into fights. My vet told me unneutered male cats have the shortest lives because of those two things.

Ann, your GE reminds me of why I like that one so much. I hope mine is still out there.

Yesterday I planted Monarda 'Jacob Cline' to replace what I lost. The hummingbirds love that one so much. I hope it will multiply again.

I planted two new hellebores from the honeymoon series. One is French Kiss and the other is Romantic Getaway. (one pic because they look the same :-)

    Brunneras are starting to flower.

Thank goodness Rare Breed is doing better than its marker.

Rainbow's End is the farthest along. And I got the Sluggo out on time!

Monday was far too cool and breezy to do anything outside but Tuesday showed up bright and beautiful. The lawn finally got its first cut. Some clean up and trimming was accomplished but more is to come. There are always limbs to deal with as my house is surrounded by too many pines. Most of my hostas have made an appearance even a Paisley Print that is always the last to show. A couple have not made it yet so I assume they are goners.

I have been redoing a section where a septic field disturbed many of my existing plants. Also, dealing with shrubs which have been damaged by ultra low temperatures that we have had during the last two winters. Pomegranates, gardenia and aucubas were killed back to the ground and camellia is dead.

On a brighter note I have baby bluebirds and chickadees in my birdhouses. I have put in 7 new hostas, a fothergilla, baby joe pye, muhly grass, lilies, penstemon, confederate rose and dianthus with a few others. I am so happy that cold weather is pretty much gone.

Fortunately, I only have one spot in my yard that doesn't drain well. (I'm on a slight hill.)

It seems like it's either feast or famine when it comes to rain. They are forecasting another stormy weekend.

At least I don't have to water much right now.

Sandyslopes, you are ahead of me with the slug treatment. I need to get vinegar and sluggo plus. I will probably do this over the weekend and into next week when it warms up for good. Tonight we expect 32 F. I may cover a couple of taller pips.

A week late, but spent last week planting, moving (or just removing tree roots) and watering (and weeding and raking). Things are in full swing here now and a bunch of rain last night/today is just what the (plant) doctor ordered.

Also a week or two late here, I've been on vacation for two weeks and came back to most of my hostas up and leafing out. The hostas are mostly looking good with just a few munched on. The weeds and wild black cherry tree sprouts are like a ground cover, lots of work to do.
