It seems like last year mine came up surprisingly early, but it's MIA this year. Mine was in a pot though so I'm not surprised it was a no-show.

I seem to have lost more perennials this year than any other year I’ve lived in my house. We had a relatively mild winter here in Michigan, maybe the ground was just too wet. Was your pot in the garage?

Agastaches are always some of the earlier perennials to ”wake up” for me in spring. Most of my wild Agastache foeniculum started putting out new growth at the end of March, and my clumps of Blue Fortune have about 3” of new growth on them at this point (here in upstate NY.)

l lost two Agastache 'Blue Blazes', by far my favorite--a hybrid with one of the parents 'Blue Fortune', I think. Both plants leafed out beautifully, I took cuttings from the bigger one, then slowly both plants began to die. No idea at all what happened.

Thank you, everyone. Not the news I was hoping to see, but at least now I can start making other plans for those two locations.

It’s a pity, as I really liked Blue Fortune; it was long-blooming and quite the bee magnet!!

My Blue fortune are about a foot now. They had green sprouts coming off the bottom off the old stems a month ago. I also have Black Adder but that is just starting to wake. It had tiny leaves also at base of old stems but stayed that way for about a month,it's just now starting to grow.

Am I not correct in saying that most/many Agastaches are short lived perennials anyways?

That's why I enjoy having a self seeder like "Golden Jubilee" as I am never w/o a plant.

Thanks, at this point I’m fairly certain they’re done for, though I’m waiting another week to dig them up, just in case. From what I’ve been reading, they ARE short-lived, boo hoo. Going to be replacing them with this tall annual salvia from proven winners with which I’ve had good luck in past years, also a bee magnet!

I've gotten numerous seedlings from Golden Jubilee and Honey Bee Blue. I prefer Blue Fortune so I buy a couple of new plants each year and accept the attrition.

'cecily', how does it compare to Golden Jubilee...which do you like better?

Honey Bee Blue has shorter flower spikes, the plant size is similar. Of course Golden Jubilee has bright foliage which really sets off the blooms. If the planting space will allow golden foliage I'd go with Golden Jubilee.

I have lots of experience with GJ. I was just wondering what you thought of HBB. Thanks.

I have 2 Blue Fortunes that I planted last fall, so their first winter in my garden. They showed signs of life on 4/6 this year, about a week or two before the Asclepias Incarnata and the Joe Pye Weed emerged if that's any help. I was making plans on what to replace them with too until they popped up :P

Thank you! Yeah, pretty sure they’re goners. I’m trying to remember when I trimmed them back; I read it shouldn’t be done until spring. I generally wait until spring to do all my bed clean-up, but perhaps I cut these back last fall, or too early this year, and somehow contributed to their demise.
