I'm losing a vine maple, young clump about 10' tall and located on the right side of the entryway, to verticillium wilt. The house is a two-story and the area can handle a plant that reaches 6-10 wide. Anyone have suggestions for a replacement that is resistant to VW for the maple? In my search I'm finding most trees that are resistant will eventually be too large for the area so I think I'll have to go with a shrub that is trained to tree form.

I don't have a formal front yard, mostly Rhodis, another maple and 2 Hinoki Cypress.

I'm located south of Portland, Oregon.
