Need help - How to replace shutters with Flat Trim/Moulding?

Hello, I would like to re paint and update our windows on our home. Looking for advice on how to install flat trim after removing shutters. Do I need to cut the vinly siding around the window and add the trim? There is currently brick mold around the windows. Do I replace that, or just add the new trip to the outside of it?

Attached are a before/after of what I am going for.

That’s an easy project as part of a residing project. There is no cost effective way to cut back vinyl siding to allow wider trim and detail all the waterproofing correctly. Imagine the new 1/6 across the top of the window- it has to have metal flashing that runs up behind the siding. Then you need to add J channel for the siding to fit into. Adding trim on top of the siding will always look like a shortcut.
