So sorry that the deer are being such terrible pests. It has got to be sad for you. Depending on the area you are moving to, you may not have to worry about them once you are there.

Brad - I look forward to leaving deer and grubs behind. I'm looking for a place that has a fenced yard. Where I live now I am on a corner, so the yard is exposed. If I hadn't decided to move, I would have added a fence this year because of the deer problem. This is the first year they eaten all the stalks off my geum plants. One lady nearby said they ate most of foliage off her hydrangeas this time, and that had never happened before. Deer Off with it's minty smell worked great for the first two years I tried it. I've switched to Repel All, and it repels me and my outside feral cat.

Kind of off daylilies, but can you grow Geums? I like the look of them but have been told for years that they just don't make it when our summer temperatures set in. When do they bloom for you (if the deer don't deprive you that)? .....The thing I crave now more then anything (we have a fence) is a greenhouse or at least a 3 stall attached garage to overwinter plants and a car. BTW My garage door has windows across the top so that some semi dormant plants can get enough light to make it over winter. Lots of people are afraid of having windows in their garage thinking people can look in and see if their car is at home. I don't worry about that............Maryl

Maryl - I've grown Geum Tangerine Tango for five or six years. It blooms in all through May profusely, and then, if we have rain, puts up rebloom scapes in late June. Geums need morning sun and afternoon shade.

Debra, how exhasting to fight deer every year. I know the feeling. Our land backs up to a national forest so they use my gardens as a trail. I use several sprays, changing them up after every rain. Your bugs aren’t red are they?!!!

I agree with you about Butterfly Moon, it is one I will let go at some point because there are prettier patterns. I do feel I have set pods on it, not a lot, but I know I never got a seedling better than Butterfly Moon from it. Too bad about Bowtie Affair, it is really pretty. Mystical Intuition sounds like a good plant, and pretty too.

I see that all the pics of Mystical Intuition on NGA are from people in mild regions. There are always areas in a yard, though, that are more protected than others. I'm afraid that bugs will be a big problem here too.

Mantis - I bought Mystical Intuition from someone in the Pacific Northwest. I'm crossing my fingers that it will make it in Indianapolis.

Nancy - How interesting that you have gotten pods from Butterfly Moon. Maybe it just didn't like the pollen I tried last summer.

Kate - I haven't seen any of the lily beetles. My bugs are a brownish gray with a pointed head. I thought they were Tarnish Bugs, but they aren't.

If Kare doesn't want Busy Being Fabulous, I will add it to my Wilkersons, but let her have first chance. Very pretty Wednesday blooms. I am so sorry about the bugs and the deer.

Kay - There's plenty of Busy Being Fabulous for both you and Kate. I think it has 14 fans now, although not all of the fans are mature. While it multiplied slowly the first three years I had it, the plant really added a lot of fans the past two years. Here's a photo of it from today with four blooms open.

It's a shame Busy Being Fabulous won't make the cut, but you have to make space for those that do perform. Mystical Intuition is very pretty. I hope it makes the transition for you.

In answer to Sherry's question, we don't seem to have any bug pests here at this time. The Japanese beetles and June bugs can decimate a peach tree when the fruit get ripe, but they don't bother the daylilies. The deer mostly stay away from the daylilies, but they have been munching on the roses in a new bed Bob put in last fall. I imagine when the corn and soy beans get up, they will mostly stay out of our yard. Grubs and slugs don't seem to be a problem here either. Our biggest problem is weeds. I think every nasty weed known to man grows on our property--Asiatic day flower, nutsedge, mare's tail, wild geranium, and many more whose names I don't know. I guess it's better to have weeds than bugs.

Kate - I have you and Kay down for Busy Being Fabulous! Nan Wilkerson hybridized it in Louisiana, so it should grow great for you two. I may also have her Olly Olly Oxen Free and My Mama Thinks I'm A Star available. I'm on the fence about taking those two, and whether they go depends on the size of my future yard. I will definitely be packing Wilkerson's Sugar Magnolia and Sweet Child of Mine. In a couple of weeks I'm going to send you and Kay a list of all my evergreens that are too tender to be grown north of here. You can have as many of those as you want.

Nan - You are lucky those pests don't bother your daylilies. I have all those in abundance, plus thrips. Japanese Beetles totally decimated my front daylily garden two years ago. Most of the plants have still not recovered.
