Trim Color Debacle

Our have cream trim everywhere… fom the ceiling to the floor (2008 build). I’d love to go white but our windows are a grey-ish cream. We tried white in a bathroom window and don’t love it. Any suggestions to a color that is perhaps off-white and compliments the windows as well?

No, because short of painting the vinyl not much will look as you want.

"You can paint vinyl windows, as long as you use the right primer and paint designed for vinyl. A painted finish will never be as durable as the original factory finish, but you can achieve lasting results ."

"Use a bonding primer – this will help the paint to stick to the slick vinyl surface

    1. Lightly sand the vinyl window frames first to scuff them up
    2. Use a vinyl-safe color – many paint manufacturers will list which colors they recommend for vinyl
    3. Use the highest quality paint you can afford

I'd only do this with a pro, and It will not be cheap.

Are walls to be painted as well? I would match the trim color to vinyl window, so it all reads as a single unified unit, and use either lighter or distinctly different color for the walls. Trim doesnt have to be painted white - youll see numerous examples online where it isnt, and in fact imho a neutral mid or dark painted trim can be more historically accurate for an old house, which of your era was likely to have been varnished wood. Edit - I see its 2008 build, but looks like they did a good job getting it to look historic with the generously sized trim/windowsill

To my eye, and I am just looking at photos, it is your blinds that are more of an issue. I could certainly live with the vinyl color of the windows next to white trim.

I agree the blinds have to go but white and that color of the window can work together manybe just choose a bit warmer white not stark white . Maybe try roman shades in a fabric that has colors from your furniture and the window color and white .This is just one idea ihave no idea about your furnishings this would be more for blue of course

    Yes.

    You can't eyeball this.

This isn't a matter of matching a throw pillow to a sofa where close enough will be good enough whether someone has perfect color vision, cataracts or is legit color blind.

You need to measure the color of the window and then use the data values to find a color of white/off-white in the same hue family range as the windows.

Measuring color the same way a paint store does but it's portable.

These days we recommend NIX Mini 3, it's $97. It is an over-engineered portable colorimeter; overengineered because the sensor is equivalent to many spectrophotometers on the market that cost hundreds of dollars.

Do not use the "Match" feature. That's the mistake most everyone makes with all of these devices.

And it's not what you want anyway - you want a white/off-white that is in the same hue family as the window color.

If you want to get a NIX and go find the right white/off-white, I can tell you how to do that.

It is not complicated. We coach clients on how to do this all day every day.
