Help with ideas for decorating around paintings

last year

Hello, I inherited two very large dalmation paintings. They are special to me as they are pictures of my Grandmothers award winning Dalmations and were painted in her home. I would like to incorporate them into my space, but have no idea where to start. Does anyone have an advice on how to decorate using the picures as a theme?

What elements of the room are you looking to decorate? Paint, flooring, furniture, window treaments? Give us an idea of the scope you are working with. Also, give us a sense of your taste and style. You could adapt these into a contemporary eclectic look, a traditional look. What do you want?

The paintings are awesome. The colors are fantastic and the gold frames could add some hints towards hardware in the room too.

Thank you for your compliments on the paintings! I'm open to anything! We have wood floors, but beyond that painting, furniture, window treatments are all open. I could see the paintings in both an eclectic and a traditional setting, so any ideas that would help inspire me are appreciated. I think, as they belonged to my grandmother, I'm having a mental block seeing them in my space.

I don't know that you need to decorate around them. I would just want to incorporate them over a stair case above a buffet... They need nothing they stand alone.

You wouldn't happen to have pictures of your home so that folks can really help...Would ya?

Decorating around the pictures won’t enhance them specifically, you may just end up with them potentially getting lost in a themed setting. My husband inherited some wonderful art and each one draws attention on its own accord. The key is finding the perfect spot and keep them together for more impact.

Without seeing where you are considering to hang, can’t really help. If over a console, add a lamp and the low lighting will highlight them. Could add some vintage leather bound books to create a nice vignette.

Can you post photos of your home especially potential areas where the paintings might be hung?

They don't all have to be displayed do they? Could you rotate some? Just a thought.

How lovely to remember your grandmother. I would love to see the spaces you are thinking of using. Do you have a library or space that could incorporate all the paintings making a fun place to see and enjoy your grandmother's legacy.

Meanwhile here are some spaces with fun paintings that might inspire you with your own spaces.

I see no reason to theme a space for these. I do not like cllage walls but these are perfect together . If we see your spaces we get a better feel for your style . How many are there in total?

Love the photos posted by ffpalms. You can choose to build a room around one or two of them or group them together for maximum impact. We created a gallery wall in my husband’s small study that we refer to as our “canine wall of fame,” all near and dear to us. Note the Dalmatian at the top— she was the bossy one. 🙃

Just repeating that bright red color in the artwork for the rug is enough to make the room feel cohesive. Love this!

Thank you all! I really appreciate the ideas you have shared. Once I determine where in the house I want them, I’ll update with photos of the area.
