It might be my monitor, but I don't think those samples will look good with your current flooring....which means the difference will only be more pronounced when the whole floor is finished. Think about using unfinished planks and get them finished to match your current floors.

IMO the living room is so small I would keep or replace the wall-to-wall carpet. Adding wood and then an area rug to the room is too complicated .

Use engineered oak in the family room.

There is nothing easier to find than engineered stained oak.

If I did anything to the living room it would be to select smaller scale furniture. Just a sofa and a lounge chair or two. That could open up the room visually.
