Depth of Oven Choice

The aisle space between my wall countertop and the island counter top is 43". Am I making a mistake selecting a "pro" style range that is a few inches deeper than the countertop? Should I reconsider my selection to something closer to counter depth?

I'm concerned about creating a pinch point. For context the kitchen has two wall countertops

opposite each other and an island between them - therefore there are two aisles, one on each side of the island.

My primary selection is a Thermador 36" Pro Grand Range (30 5/8" wall to handle) and my alternative is the Pro Harmony equivalent model (27 3/8" wall to handle).

if you want respondents to answer only and exactly the question posed.... that expectation has not met Houzzers LOL so just take what's useful and skip what's not!

FWIW if you post a floor plan with measurements you may get better advice. (also advice on things you didn't ask for :) )

Ideally of course you would have bigger aisles, but it depends on how many cooks, where the traffic flow is through your kitchen and home, what else is near the range, etc.

CR tested the Thermador PRG305WH, the smaller sibling of the PRG366WH, and it did not test well enough to earn a recommended rating. The Monogram ZGP304NTSS did earn a recommended rating and its ZGP366NTSS sibling is 28-1/2" back-to-front-of-door. The Cafe CGY366P2TS1 (also 28-1/2") is similar but less powerful, $1200 less, and owners really like it (Home Depot, Best Buy).

It appears the Monogram 28 1/2" measurement is from back to front of door. In this case it's deeper than the Thermador Pro Grand measurement of 27 7/8".

Never install a pro style range unless you can do the pro style high CFM vent that needs to be it's partner.

Fair point. I have spec’d a 1000cfm hood from XO. It was the highest cfm hood I was able to find that still allowed for an 8” duct.

Is 5/8" difference worth $2400 to $3560?

I have Fivestar....not as high end as Wolf, Viking or Thermador. but I've had it now for 10 or 11 years? I would get the dual fuel closed burners. I love how shallow it is...looks so built in.

Commercial type ranges come in depths from 25 -30 " so look for one that is 25 " deep I have worked in many commercial kitchens where the ranges were 25" deep . I ahve a Bertazzoni it is 25 " deep. Go on AJ Madison to easily compare sizes of ranges . Why a commercial type range I guess is my question and a layout of your kitchen could be helpful too. An all gas range is the only real commercial type range and you are awsre that the oven does not self clean in a commercial range .

Assuming 25 1/2 deep countertop, that means that the larger stove will stick out 3 1/2" ( not including handle ). That takes your walkway to 39 1/2. That is tight but has been done. I would suggest you place a chair or small table that far away from your current range and do some cooking in the oven and see how you feel about it.

What is on the opposite of the island? Can you push a couple of inches to the other side? Reduce the depth of the island?

Do you feel like the smaller range can give you all the things you are looking for in a range?

You need to test the dimensions against your current range to see how you feel. You may have to open the oven from the side.
