Just got a Dyson and it‘s wonderful. Light, strong suction (2 settings) and chargeable, so really easy to use. Always wise to research hardwood reviews.

We’ve had Dysons for the last 12-14 years but an upright model with spinning brush . I am worried sth like that can scratch the floors . Maybe not immediately but overtime that will add hundreds of tiny scratches that will wear the floors.
Looking for a strong but safe vacuum for hardwood floors.
Hoping for an advice from someone who has had hardwood floors for a while ..

Thank you, looked it up, makes sense (focus on brush not the vacuum, lol). Also looking at Miele as it seems more powerful.
Still would love to hear from those who’s been using their vacuums on hardwood and what models they are and + / -.

I have hardwood throughout my home and my Miele canister has been awesome on them with use of the wood floor suction head. The canister is light enough for use on wood stairs too albeit the Dyson is lighter. But Miele’s suction is very powerful and the vacuum has been going strong for 30 years across two homes.

I've used the following with no issues at all on our hardwood floors - a central vac (may not be feasible), Dyson cordless vacs with the fluffy head only, and Miele canisters. We actually have a Miele at both of our houses. They work very, very well on hardwood flooring. Get a model with the twisting parquet floor tool.

Miele canisters are the way to go. They are incredibly powerful and quiet. We use one in each of our hardwood floor showrooms.

Msphouse, I was looking at Miele today and the more I looked the more I liked what I saw. Especially that latest cordless model and another Boost :) Parquet.

On my old upright Dyson you can turn off the brush and use only the suction. Don't they all have that option? It works great on my vinyl floors. I like using my Shark stick vacuum with the soft brush better, it works better than my full sized Dyson.

We have high-gloss hardwood floors and our Dyson v7 scratches, even with the soft roller. It's too close to the ground and the felt wears down and it scratches. Had to replace the head last year and now it's scratching again. I'm done (and heartbroken at all the scratches). I'm going to try the Miele CX1...

Sebo upright is a beast. German engineering and will likely last a few decades at least.

Uprights shouldn't be used on hardwood, they will scratch the flooring. Exception would be if the beater brush is able to be turned off or there is some sort of special brush attachment for hardwoods.

Welll it's been 18 years with the floor and vacuum and no issues. There may be some uprights which are unfriendly but not sure you can generalize across all uprights.
