I had no hood on an island stove and there was eventually a fine layer of grease on everything. Also Also, the whole house would smell for days after i cooked thjngs like steak.

I guess if you dont cook it would be fine.

But i eventually redid the whole kitchen to move the stove to a wall and install a hood.

I wouldn't want a cooking surface on an island if seating is also there for safety and I would not forego ventilation for cooking fumes and smells.

One of the best things about my kitchen renovation was having an actual working hood. i had never had a real one before and it is the best!! i would not forgo a hood on a nee kitchen.

It will be just as "amazing" on a wall with a hood.

What is supposed to be amazing is the the chef, the food! Not the grease, steam in the air, not the scent three days hence and I care not whether that food is cooked on an invisible surface, or a honkin 48 inch s.s range with red knobs.

Vent it.

IMO a fun idea but you still need venting so moving it to place where it is not vented makes no sense. I think as cool as they look I always think down the road replacement issues .It is always your kitchen but good venting is always needed . I also think these belong in very contemporary spaces where all appliances are kind of invisible.

Sounds very gimmicky to me. And as others have pointed out, a particularly bad idea without venting.

But I definitely lean towards practicality, so take it for what it’s worth.

“we do not want to go through the process of installing a ceiling hood and can not do down draft”— then you cant do a cooktop. not having ventilation will be nasty and disgusting.
