Obedient plant blooms in August-September around here. It fills the gap between summer and fall. The foliage doesn't get ratty. I don't deadhead it since it's a late bloomer for me anyway. Bees dig it.

I am happy with it so far at the 2-week mark. It started blooming, and it's a lovely shade of lilac-pink.

I had it but it reseeded too vigorously for me so I pretty much wiped it out. It is pretty but the name always seemed ironic to me because it was out of bounds , not obedient or mannerly. That doesn't mean for sure that it'll do that in your garden.
