Spend the 10K it will cost you for a pro to paint the cabinets and buy new counters. Those counters are not complimented by the green, or almost any color but a very warm cream.

    Ok, thank you.

How would butcher block counter’s look and change the backsplash and keep the cabinets their original color

The cabinets are the absolute BEST THING about the kitchen. Change the counters and splash to something lighter and quieter. Not more wood. White Corian maybe. Then do an interesting shaped splash.

I agree, cabinets look good, even though, cant see much of them. A bigger picture of your kitchen would help. The counters and present backsplash, dont go together, or with the cabinets.

In the original post you wanted to paint the cabinets green. Now you are thinking to keep them unpainted but change the backsplash. Is that correct? Can you please post a larger image of your space showing upper and lower cabinets, sink or range, and floor?

There are two backsplashes in this image. The square tiles are completely unnecessary and not very attractive. Removing them is a great idea. It will require that you repair your wall before you do anything else, but it is worth it.

It sounds like you don’t like your granite either and want a relatively inexpensive replacement for it. If we can see how big your kitchen is we may be able to help more. If it is small you can try to find remnants of other materials to use.

I need all that has been mentioned and I have to agree the cabinets are not the issue but that backsplash is not working at all. What is that granite , maybe a better close up of it will help. Sorry I have no idea what shade of green that is at all.

I do like my cabinets and no I’m not happy with the countertops, backsplash or floor, when I purchased the house this is the way it was and I’m looking to make changes, no I don’t have a 10k budget but I can come close too that.

Look what a visual relief it is to just have those square tiles down and have paint on the wall above the 4” backsplash. Absolutely remove those tiles if you can. The wall behind them will need to be repaired, but it is worth it. It may be hard pulling off the tiles and not damaging the 4” backsplash. Do your best, try to be careful, see how it goes.

The paint color on the wall harmonizes well with the counters and cabinets but you want a change, you want to bring some life into the space. I get it!

    • First, demo the tile and repair the walls.
    • Next, get an electrician to give you quotes on installing ambient 4” LED lighting in the ceiling, and task lighting under the upper cabinets. You feel the darkness because you literally have no light in there.
    • The next thing I would do is sample new wall colors. It doesn’t make much sense to do this until you have lighting, but if it makes you happy to start looking, start looking.

The good news is that all of this will cost much less than new counters will, and it should be able to give you a big improvement fairly quickly.

You can get rid of the 4” backsplash too, and just tile that back wall, but keeping it till you know what you want in the space is just a more conservative option.

Try removing all of the objects on top of the cabinets. You may appreciate a cleaner look, especially with those eye catching countertops.

The counters the floor and the cabinets work together leave them all as is . Change the backsplash if you must or just remove those square tiles keep the 4" piece and look for a new wall color . Take all the stuff off the top of the caibinets and IMO be done for awhile 10K will not get you what you want and IMO DIY painting cabinets is never a good idea.
