Maybe a hundred or so. I have them all over the yard, in pots and in the ground. If some don't do well we move them to another location or a pot. Often, I buy multiples of the same hosta and plant them near each other to get a bigger and better looking hosta in the garden. (Also I am impatient) so that works for me. I know many people with hundreds, but then I belong to a hosta club so that is to be expected.

My last count was over nine hundred named varieties. I have since slowed way down on my collecting.

Down to 40 in pots. At one time I had 130 and knew each one by name.

But then I live in Silicon Valley, and people don't plant things that don't stay green all year around. Who wants to look at bare dirt during dormancy???? ;-)

I'm down to 28. I once had about 100 in pots. Disease and a couple years of intense heat and no rain took it's toll.

Virtually all of my hostas are in pots of some variety, mostly nursery pots varying from 1 to 5 gallon. I number around 100 or so varieties and have multiples of probably about half of them.

I really didn't know how many hosta I had until you made me count! LOL! Total: about 160, plus lots of multiples. No wonder I feel like I am getting confused about where my hosta are and some of the names! Some are in the garden and some in pots.

These are the first four of my collection at the new house. June, Morning Star, Halcyon and Patriot. This was about six weeks ago. 22 varieties in six weeks is respectable, no? lol

Yes, it can feel addictive. However, it doesn't hurt anyone and they bring so much pleasure.

I would recommend connecting with your local hosta society and giving them a chance. You can see member's gardens and go visit nurseries together, learn, have parties, order as a club, commiserate...

I do not know how many I have. I do plan to label them this year and even bought brother ptouch label maker. Likely several hundreds, hopefully around 500. I am slowing down as it is hard to take care of everything well. I have few doubles, mostly the ones that are hard to find. I collect Dan Wols and Lakeside hostas. I love streakers and grow them from seed.

I actully went out and started counting….. got to 143 and gave up. I have over 150 by a bit. I also have multiples of some varieties, and this year, about 20 in pots. This will be my first experience with over wintering hostas in ceramic pots.

Totally agree with Lindalana's suggestion. When we joined a local club we got to see other people's gardens and learned about places to order from and what plants are easy and hard to grow in your area. We've had lots of fun and learned a lot about hostas and plants in general.

Just updated my list to remove all that have died or that I sold... I am at 299. Not gonna lie, this really makes me want to go buy one more...

I have 31 with 3 repeats. I have thought about getting a society going here. Last summer in a Jacksonville facebook post about growing hostas here that there was more than me growing them. One claimed under a Maple too. There were no photos.

lol good point. I am considering making the trip to "In the country garden and gifts" in Iowa for their hosta get together in July. I'm sure that won't be an issue if I go. :)

It's just so easy to get one , then two and then ... So many beautiful hostas and so many more each year!

When plants travel alone whether it be in the car or mail, there should be two or more with them, so they do not get lonely. An unhappy plant has a rough start. Keep them happy.

Maybe persuade the nursery of the old axim - "Cheaper by the dozen". :)
