need help with my ugly fireplace wall

What are some of the things you did to elevate the wall that is meant to be the focal point of the living room?

Ever since I moved in, I was struggling to decide if I should go with custom cabinets or pre-made ones, as utilizing the space beside the fireplace is a no brainer.
But the fireplace’s backsplash… the more I stare at it the more of an eyesore it becomes. Now I’m thinking if I should retile the wall, get rid of the wooden shelf or shave off the part that sticks out… Also trying to be budget conscious of course. I have no clue how much the tile removal/installing new ones would cost, should I just get a new fireplace at that point?
This is a builder standard house so I’m hoping some of you would have a good solution or advice. Thanks in advance!

How long ago did you move in? What is there in the room now? Lose the TV over the mantel as that is the wrong place for a TV. Changing out the tile would be WAG, $3K, and take it to $7500 to replace the fireplace.

Please post photos from further back, other angles and a floor layout of the room. Agree no tv over fireplace. Seeing other options the pros will be able to offer ideas. Now - if you remove the tv brackets from tile, can that be remedied to hide the holes?

Thank you! I appreciate the input on numbers, gives me an idea of what to expect. The tv jack was already there when I moved in and holes in tiles can’t really be spackled. I bought 2 cabinets at one point but the movers were not able to fit them in, so am now exploring options to custom build, however the floating mantle would really get in the way of doing that. I’m also thinking to use a black backsplash so the tv doesn’t pop out that much

That cabinet is huge!

It looks like the room is not that large and the tv over the fireplace is where it needs to be in this room.

You could put 2 consoles on the sides of the fireplace with artwork above.

Yeah… after I sent them back the store wanted to get another more experienced team to try again and promised that they’ll make it fit but I kinda just lost faith. They were indeed huge in the space and were not flattering.
Yes I might do the consoles + art or do bookshelves. Thanks.

I’m not a pro but I think your fireplace would look a lot better without the mantle. Have you checked to see if it could be removed without much effort? I also think you could do free standing consoles or built in cabinets with maybe floating shelves. Here are some pics for inspiration.

Consoles or credenzas on each side. Tv on the console to the right. Art over fp to hide the mount and electrical plates.
