Hey guys! This was my grandparents home in Louisiana. It was built in 1951. My mother and are are redoing this together and I had no idea how hard it would be to agree!! Im thinking beverly hills hotel meets austin?? I know the shutters and the storm door need to go….

Call me crazy but I am a huge fan of the blonde brick!

Would appreciate yalls advice!!!

I'd paint it to match the brick.

A soft earth tone for the siding to blend with the brick (I like the moss green idea above, roycroft grey is pretty) with white trim. Put a fun color on the front door.

Yes, I think you are right in taking style cues from the lovely blond, masonry chimney. it is very midcentury and has an interesting shape. As mentioned, other warm, earthy paint colors would work well. Good luck!

Since the chimney is front and center you definitely want to use it as your guide. I'm glad you like the brick. It's always hard for me to get behind painting brick. Look for a siding color slightly lighter or darker than the brick. I wouldn't suggest a lot of contrast, but enough to let the brick have room to shine. I also agree that the shutters should go. Now is a great time to eliminate them.

I think the advice given is good but IMO the biggest bang will be the landscaping if MCM is the aim. This is one of my faves for inspiration for MCM landscaping MCM is all about simple and clean lines so no English garden here.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions!!! I was intially thinking a soft black or charcoal, navy as a conpromise, then started drooling over SW jasper!!! please keep the suggestions coming! The other half of the vote is leaning towards beige or agreeable gray :/

And Patricia, I know you are right about the landscape. The only thing is that I am a rosarian 🤣

So, I have to keep it real to both the period and my roses lol

Keep sending all the advice yall can!!

    we need a popular opinion!!!

It's a really charming vintage ranch. You could do a gray and camel color scheme. Very classic.

You could paint it white which is classic also.

I would try to match the brick chiminey for the house color. Your house is a nice example of a ranch house. Not all ranch houses are mcm, or even close to being mcm. So no worries, with about remaining true to mcm.
