How old is your tree? They usually take around 5 years before fruiting...

And yes, I'd remove the suckers.

I've had it for almost 2 years. Here's what it looked like when I bought it. I don't know how old. Likely not 5.

You will greatly increase your chance of success if you get a genetically distinct pomegranate to cross pollinate this one. It can be small as long as it flowers - and simultaneously. The only way to know it is genetically distinct is to ask if it’s seed grown or at least from a different source.

I agree a second tree might improve fruit set, but many varieties are self-fertile.

You don’t state which variety you have, but ’Wonderful’ is usually self pollinating. I wonder if a lack of pollenators could be (bee?) the problem.

Also, very few nurseries graft pomegranates; most are cutting-grown so there is no motive to remove ”suckers”, except an aesthetic one.

Self pollinating trees will still fruit much better with a genetically distinct companion. I don’t understand your point about grafted and cutting grown trees. Both are clones (except of the root stock). If a nursery is producing all of its pomegranates by either method they will be clones.

The motive to remove suckers is to prevent the rootstock variety of a grafted plant from overtaking the scion variety. It is irrelevant on cutting-grown plants.

I don't know the variety. I looked to see if I still had the tag or a picture of it but I can't find it. It's flowered twice. We tend to have many bees and our other fruit trees do well. Maybe it's age?

I think I was concerned for the suckers because I'm used to growing grafted citrus. This is my first first into a different type of fruit.

I can't tell from your picture if your flowers are single (single layer of petals) or double (multiple layers or rows of petals). Single-flower type of pomegranate more likely to fruit.

It's a single layer of petals. I hope that's promising! Maybe it just needs a couple more seasons? Do they flower if they aren't ready to fruit? It does just bloom beautifully then drops them all. I've seen bees and we tried to hand polinate some too!
