Door not staying open

My bathroom door is not staying open. It has two hinges and one of the screws is missing in the bottom hinge. I am assuming that is not the root cause. I bent the pin from bottom hinge and put it back in, in a hope that it will solve the issue but it didn't resolve the issue.
Should I try bending the top hinge pin also?
Is this an involved job if I approach a handyman?
Thank you.

Are those the original hinges that came with the door. Doesnt look like it, and they look like they dont fit well either. Not a good job of mortising the hinges. I would also put the screw in. The holes are there for a reason.

thank you @cat_ky. do you think i should look into mortising the hinges or look for different hinges?

i came across on the internet that shimming could possibly solve the issue. i dont know what to try...

Before messing with shims behind the hinges I would try bending the other hinge pin and taking another try at bending the first hinge pin.

The first time I tackled bending the hinge pin I had to make a couple of attempts to get enough bend in it. Problem with my door was that it would swing open on its own. I was sneaking up on it, afraid that I would bend it too much. Had to use a 3# sledge with determination to get enough bend to correct the free swinging.

@ci_lantro - my issue with bending hinge pins is that they are taking a lot of effort to go back in. it took me good two hours to push a bent pin back in. Also, i feel like I am just putting a band aid over the issue and i dont want the next owner to curse me :-)

@seabornman are there any tools to check the plumbness?

A level. You can get a cheap one at Home Depot or Lowes for a few bucks.

You could also try a magnetic door stop if your door opens against a wall.

@Karenseb I am interested in trying that option. Could you please provide link to that product?

Google magnetic door stop. home improvements stores have them online.

Hi all - I just noticed today (what an idiot I am) that the one of the two hinges i.e., the top hinge is missing a hinge pin. Could that be causing the door to not stay open?

Maybe, maybe not. If the door is not staying open, it is not hung properly most likely. Replace the pin and see. As mentioned above the hinge mortises look suspect and quite possibly too deep. Tough to tell from the limited info offered.

I would definitely put in the hinge pin and try it, but, those hinges have been installed by someone that didnt know how to do it, and are not done properly, which leads me to believe the door isnt installed plumb either.

    thank you @millworkman and @cat_ky.

i bought a hinge pin at home depot and the associate informed me that hinge pins are universal size. is that true? - i have not tried putting it on yet.
