I’d leave it be for now and start correcting the form with dormant season pruning.

By the time your Fire and Ice hydrangea matures - or even in a couple of years it will have put on so much upright growth that you won't even remember that it had a branch growing more horizontally. If it were my bush I would leave it as it is, it needs as many branches and leaves to produce strong healthy growth. The horizontal growth will just be covered by the new branches, it isn't as if your hydrangea will continue growing out instead of up. Be patient - it looks healthy, just leave it alone to grow! It will grow into the normal size and shape with a little time.

I agree with what others have said already - just leave it alone for now and see how it "grows out of it"!

It looks very nice indeed - are you in zone 4? How early did your Fire and Ice start to bloom??? It's very pretty!

Yes I am zone 4 in NY foot hill of Adirondacks near Canadian border. It started budding end of May and flowering mid june. I am not sure if this is normal though we had a mild winter and a very warm and early spring. Most everything in my garden seems to be ahead for bloom times this year.
