4'x6' is pretty tiny. What are your goals for this addition?

We had a 4'x10' deck off our sun room, and it was just big enough for Hubby to stand in front of the grill - nothing else. Last year we tore it down and built a proper deck, where we can eat, relax, and entertain.

The foundation required depends on your local code. When we applied for the building permit for our deck, the city sent us the relevant portion of the code that applies to decks. We used concrete footers, 10" in diameter ( to go below the frost line). We also poured a concrete pad under the steps. This would probably be overkill for your little landing, but it wouldn't go anywhere!

That’s barely bigger than my shower, and I’m petite. Really too small for even one chair.

I wouldn’t call it a deck but due to the height I’m not sure what to call it.

Our current deck is rotting but also takes up too much space in our narrow yard and makes it hard to walk out to the pool, firepit, etc. This is really just a wide stoop for getting in and out of the house easier.

Picture's of the area would help as well as general location of the US as there different soil types and frost lines which will dictate footing types and depths.

So stairs are attached?

I’m in Minnesota and our backyard is a fairly sandy type of soil.

This is sort of what I’m looking for with an extra stair and a railing along the right side instead of stairs. I’m going to add pavers to the yard that will tuck under the bottom step.
