A great sofa and chairs best bet given the constraints of this room. I would consider putting TV to left of fireplace with console under and a similar console or taller cabinet to the right. I generally prefer less trendy furniture for main pieces and add interest with chairs, art, tables and accessories. How many people will be using this room every day? Approx ages?

Buying a sofa or sectional requires you to sit on them. You won’t enjoy your time in the room if the main piece isn’t comfy. We have had L shaped sectionals twice and they are definitely great for watching shows together. A good sofa and comfortable recliner (a classy one) can also be a good match. But comfort and style (that works with your house) are both important.

Blue tape is your friend. Plot out the size you think you can live with and also place boxes there so you really envision how much space a new couch will occupy. Then go shopping.

Swivel chairs work really well with this type room. Watch for visible round pipe bases for swivels and try your avoid. Pretty unsightly in rooms. A extra large coffee table would “anchor” the room with a great rug.

Oh, by the way, how many people will be using the room daily and how many guests do you want to accommodate.? A sectional isn’t worth the one extra seat, which is really uncomfortable. It is better to have couches and chairs. They are much more flexible than a sectional. Sectionals take over the room and just overwhelm it.

Flo, I hope all is well following the hurricane! What a long time to go without power! I have decided on a regular sofa and was able to find a great chair-and-a-half swivel. The coffee table is a really cool repurposed rail cart. Now to find a great rug and accessorize the room. Perhaps an additional accent chair as well.

Mae, I couldn't agree more that the sectional would take too much space. The back wall is also not centered with the fireplace, which causes additional concern with placement and not enough space to float. A floor plan would have been much more helpful. I have found a few pieces I think will work well. I appreciate you taking the time to answer! :)

You will not be happy placing the tv above the fireplace. You don’t have the depth between the sofa and tv, therefore you.l be straining your neck to watch. Take the good advice from others and place the tv beside the fireplace. Another word of advice (that wasn’t asked for) paint the dark grout around your fireplace stones in a lighter colour that matches the stone. It will look much more attractive without the harsh contrast.

I too think having the TV lower is better, but, we have had this dilemma too and what we found is we tend to lean back when watching TV and we had no choice on where to locate our TV. SO sometimes you have to try it with your new furniture and it might be fine given your use and style. Here are a couple photos of what we had to do.
