Wallpaper Opinions

last modified: 2 years ago

Hi!

I'm going to wallpaper a small powder room - the room is about 5x5. The tile color is Nordic Ris from Tile Shop. I'm looking for opinions on if the wallpaper I like will be too dark for the small space and end up making the room look even smaller? I'm thinking black rimmed mirror and brushed brass faucet w/brass light fixture. Below is the wallpaper and the tile.

IMO the wallpaper and tile do not work together .too mich the sort of same but not in a good way. I would be looking at something very different but I need to ssee the space I assume these tiles are on the floor.

Pattern on the wall or the floor for a small room. I would not consider a hex for the floor with that paper on the walls. Consider either a square or rectangle in a 12 x 18 or 18x18 size.

I don't think a black framed mirror works with this wallpaper selection.

I like both...but not together. The colors work, but the designs don't.

How about a grass cloth? You can add a mirror and a small piece of art over the toilet.

I think you need to rethink the whole space if the tile is already on the floor then you need to work with it. Do you want a dark mody space ? Ithink thgere are some really coolo asstract wallpaper that could work but I think you are a bit traditional in your style so I need more info.

I think the pattern of the wallpaper is going to be dizzying in that size room. The repeat just feels off to me. And, I don't love that floor with the paper either. There are lovely papers on the site you linked to. Do you have any other favorites? I don't think the paper is too dark. Dark is great in a smaller bathroom.

I love both your choices in terms of color. I really think that wallpaper is pretty. I do agree that the geometric hex with the curvy traditional paper is not a good choice.

Dark wallpaper in a small bathroom is fine, but I agree these two don’t work well together. Keep looking.

Ok - thank you for all of the feedback so far! Glad I asked!

The tile is not down yet - it’s for a larger space that transitions between a mudroom to bathroom to laundry. So, I felt a smaller hex tile transitions between rooms more easily than a larger tile might.

I’m totally open to other ideas. There are several prints on the site that i like, This is for a main floor powder room that’s being totally remodeled. There will be a pedestal sink with a mirror and sconce above. Neither are settled on.

The overall feel of the main floor is a bit more transitional, but I do love traditional style as well.

The grass cloth is an interesting idea. I’ll have to look into it more. This is another pattern I liked but the shipping times are pretty far out.

Hex-shaped tile seems to be the current trend, but that's exactly what it is,..... a trend.

It was popular in the late 60's when homes transitioned from MCM to Mediterranean, and unless the architecture calls out for the hex shape, these floors will be dated in no time.

I like this second wallpaper. It will work with the tiles you posted.

Love the movement of the second wallpaper you posted. If it doesn’t work because of timeline, look for others like it using a google image search.

Look at a sample of the wallpaper and the hex flooring together to be sure one isnt leaning tan beige while the other leans green grey.

I like the tile but would prefer to see it as a smaller maybe 2” hex - better for the scale of the room and transitional or traditional feel.

Does that tile come smaller? A 1” hex tile is classic and neutral enough to work with a lot of styles, patterns and colors.

IMO hex tile is certan look and for me does not transition well from space to sapce not nearly as well as 12 24 tile but first you decide the floor then come back for wallpaper ideas.

Find a wallpaper that contrasts the tile, something totally different. I love the papers from the UK personally because they have so much depth and make small spaces feel larger.
