Door color advice

last modified: 12 months ago

We recently purchased a house and I am working at figuring out paint colors. The siding is a beige color that today I discovered has some purple undertones. I purchased a sample of SW Rosemary which I thought would be lovely for the front door... only to discover it made the siding look purple! I am wanting some kind of dark blue/teal or green color. Is there something down these lines that would minimize the purple undertones? Or do I need to go a different direction altogether? Or would a lighter color be better than dark? The beige color is a very medium shade. Not sure if it helps to add a picture, as it looks lighter here than in real life. Also, no purple to be seen. We won't be doing much to the outside of the house before moving in, but we do hope to replace or paint the brown trim in the not too distant future - probably white to match the window frames.

I'd avoid any teal, blue anything with the siding.

    SW Rock Bottom here

    Urbane Bronze......

In addition to what Jan posted, I would do something about the two-toned trim around the windows. Either white or whatever darker color, but not both.

I think your home is perfectly charming AS IS. I would not paint the front door.

Yes adding green to the door will bring out the pink in your siding.

I would also not eliminate the two-tone trim around your windows. I'm betting it's vinyl trim and the brown color provides some definition to the windows.

Thank you all for your input. That gives me some direction! I'll stay clear of anything green or blue. Makes me a bit sad, but I guess I have to work with what I've got.

You can have your color with the Eggplant suggested. The deep rich color is so gorgeous with your shade of gray siding.

Black trim for doors and windows, fascia.

    Black metal light fixture.

    This color is approximate.

I would not recommend these colors if the OP lives in Baltimore : /

I like the house the way it is, and would paint the door to match the darker trim. Add some color in pots of plants, and some colorful plants in the flower beds. Right now, its all green plants and white plants and some purple plants, like little soldiers marching along. The lines are all linear, and your house needs some softness. Maybe another flower bed on yard side of sidewalk, that is curved. Also a couple smaller flowering type trees in the front yard.

I'm not from Baltimore. :) But I'm leaning toward something in the Urban Bronze range for the door. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of too much purple. :)

I'm pretty sure that we'll someday paint the trim and roof trim. Right now we're focusing on the inside, as we have a deadline to get moved, and I'm realizing that even painting the exterior door is going to be pushed off for another month or two.

This picture shown was taken a couple years ago when my parents-in-law lived there and it will have different landscaping now, but I like your input cat_ky. I'd love some flowering trees in my front yard. An ornamental crab is on my list at the suggestion of my sister.
