Help with backsplash

We are getting a new island and countertops in a few months. The island will be a soft black and the counters are a warm white quartz with grey and brown/gold veinjng. Not too busy though.

We are keeping the existing cabinets and will swap out the hardware to a brushed gold. But I’m stuck on backsplash ideas. my husband doesnt want it too white or sterile, we arent opposed to color, but i dont want to clash with the fridge. we are going for a warm, sunny feel that blends with MCM elements. any ideas?

edit: We will not be putting in tile before the counters. i just need ideas to help me visualize something other than plain white and thought it would help to get some additional opinions on patterns or styles. thanks!

You can not tile until tops are in place. You set the tops with no riser, and then you drag in the samples, from local or online. You stand them up, and you select. Is there a better way? No

And it is incredibly helpful to ask your fabricator to RETURN the sink cut out to you at install. He doesn't need it, will toss it in the dumpster. You can tote it to any local tile store. Whether big box, or a dedicated tile venue.

We've not a clue what you have in the seven million iterations of.....this:

Even if we did know? We aren't in your kitchen with your lighting and all else:)

That fridge would be far nicer in a counter depth, simple stainless.

when you replace the countertop, eliminate the 4" curb, if you are adding a tile backsplash.https://www.tilebar.com/curve-fluted-green-6x12-3d-glossy-ceramic-tile.html

Thank you for the idea, Lyn! we do plan to remove the 4” edge on the counters, and while I’m not sure about the green (love it but not sure its for this room), the variation and warmth in the other colors could definitely work. thanks for giving an idea based on my ask. appreciate it!

It’s fun to get ideas now, but you will want to take your time in choosing the backsplash. Wait until your countertop and other changes are complete and let your eye get used to the change. then bring your backsplash samples in and see how they play with your overall theme, including adjacent spaces. I’ll be very interested to see this progress.

I’d consider a backsplash made from the same quartz as the countertops.

Can you please explain your refrigerator? I've never seen anything like it. Yes to waiting until the counter is in.

But….with your warm wood cabinets, you don't have have much of a choice for backsplash. You don’t want a gray with your wood. You will need the same warm white of the counter for the tiles.

Your cabinets are tradition. Personally I would not do the backsplash with the same quartz as the counter.

@eld6161 the fridge is a Samsung, you can order colored panels that clip in. we have stainless as well but intend to keep the colored panels as it works with the vibe of the room. I believe you can also have panels printed with pictures.. so you could have flowers or a beach scene. its fun for something different.

thanks for the ideas-i agree while some spaces look great with matching backsplash and counters we will be tiling.

Tiles for your backsplash need to be decided AFTER you’ve installed the countertop and all lighting. It’s very hard to even pick a tile before your countertop is installed.

And no, you do not install the backsplash first. Where the countertop meets the wall is where the backsplash ends and you can’t predict that before installing the countertop.

We assume if you're replacing your 4" backsplash that you're also replacing the countertops. The countertops you have currently seem to go well, however we might suggest looking at something less black for the island countertop. Perhaps consider matching the island and perimeter countertops. Then doing a simple porcelain stacked tile in a light color that matches the countertops. Please see a few of the kitchens we have done over the years. Also note the countertops and hardware used.
