Gorgeous! I didn't get Chandos in a trade with a friend last year because I was afraid of its ultimate height, and I've sort of regretted it ever since :-D

Oursteelers, is it a raspberry and spice perfumy scent? It is quite unique.

Ben - I remember Chandos Beauty's fragrance...it's incredible. I would cut a bloom and carry it around the garden with me. Your little roses are doing well. :)

Carol, do you agree with Ben’s assessment on fragrance? Raspberry and spicy perfume? My nose doesn’t tell me what it is, just that it’s really, really good and not one dimensional

Debra, I will be back for sure to the hosta forum. I haven’t been super active on social media lately, mostly lurking. It’s been a really busy season and I’m behind on all pics, garden care, etc.

My grandson is here for the month of July and I’m just hoping my gardens are still standing by the time he goes!

I ended up getting Chandos Beauty from my trading partner after all (thanks Ben) and it's pretty great. Elena, honestly, I'd pay $66 for a good two gallon pot of it... it's worth it. And I've only read good things about All My Thyme. In fact, I corresponded with the owner several years ago about some rose I was after, and she seemed like a really good egg :-D

Golden times…

Elena, I used to order from Pickering all of the time back from the late 1990s until they closed in the mid-2010s. It was another great Canadian nursery with roses grafted on multiflora, with an even bigger selection from Europe than Palatine. When Chandos Beauty raised its head at Palatine and I looked it up, I was kind of surprised that I had never got it from Pickering, b/c it has my name written all over it :-D

Susan, we came to the US in 1998 — everything before that feels like “BC” to me now. :) I never expected that I would ever grow anything, especially roses.

And honestly, I really regret not starting when we lived in the suburbs, when we actually had land. And as I later realized, a huge selection of rare roses was available back then. But everything happens for a reason.

Also just recently, my favorite rose nursery back in my motherland published their list of top-selling roses, and Chandos Beauty was number one. That’s when I thought — okay, it’s time! :)

Elena, when I think about my journey to rose mania that started when we bought our first home in 1997, I am in awe of what was available back then... we were so spoiled. So many incredible mail order nurseries, both large and small, with incredible choices. I'm fortunate to have been able to take advantage of many of them. I started gardening at age 15 and I'm 70 now, but the roses only kicked in in the 1990s. I bought my first seven roses when we lived in our last rental from 1990-97, and I brought 6 with me (sorry, Tropicana). And it proceeded from there to hundreds :-D
