Agree there is lots of movement in the slabs. I could get everything I need out of 2 but if I use 3 I can bookmatch either side of the range and also in another run. This would also allow me to select the exact parts with a little less movement, there is a very dark area on the top edges of the slabs.

Granite choice for the island is going to be key, I have selected (but can change) a slab that is more grey and has some small dots of other color. I dont want the granite to be completely uniform.

From a far, that grey granite color looks to be a lovely pairing with the Danby. I'm excited to see pics when you are done. Still can't believe you got Danby for $20 sq/ft. We need to make a thread about the best deals anyone has ever found.

Did you ask them to move the black/gray slab next to the Danby slabs, so you could see them together?

All the slabs are on hold for 7 days. I plan to get a sample of the Marble and get it together with the proposed Granite. I really wanted Soapstone but scratches etc were very visible, with the granite ) I can put shopping bags, boxes etc down on the island without worrying - Which is how I would use the island anyway.

Sorry for not sharing earlier - Here is the layout of the kitchen, still choosing between Off-White, Green and Oak for the cabinets - Will probably have a mix.

Island & Righthand shallower run of cabinets - Oak

Main Perimeter cabinets - Painted either Off-White or Green

The Orange boxes show where I could bookmatch if I purchase all 3 slabs.

Folks on here will tell you if you have two different counters, you need to have one color in cabinets.

I like what you've chosen for the island; I think you could also consider choices in a honed, leathered, or polished quiet black shade (such as a Nero Mist or similar.)

Door samples arrive today, so thats the next series lf decisons. i can tone it all down going off white vs green. The long run of cabinets on the right hand side are designed to look like a seperate piece if furniture, they are 18” deep and have a large opening to the lounge above them.

If you have a good eye, I think you can pull off mutiple countertops and multicolored cabinets in the same space.

Great green and marble choices. Spot on. I like but don't love the granite choice. It could just be my monitor, but the little flecks in it have an ever so slight pinkish undertone. Do you see that too? None the less, I think the green, marble, and a grey/black counter are a winning combo.

I like the combo. Pls go to the slab yard and put your hands on that granite, put a little water on it, and oil if possible. I considered a similar granite for our basement bar...even my sweaty hands (the slabs were outside) left crazy marks on it...the sales person admitted that it's the problem with stones like that. I would have bothered me with 4 kids and constant dark marks on it. Yours might not be the same type, but I would check!

The green is great. It looks gorgeous next to your “star” stone.

I think you need to take @lucky998877’s advice and test the black granite. Black countertops usually show everything so be sure it passes these other tests.

@Kendrah I see the pink you are talking about in the black granite when I zoom in. It looks a bit pinkish/purple on my screen.

So gorgeous! Just wanted to let you know I've had Danby Montclair in my kitchen for 11 years and it’s held up beautifully. Very little etching and you cannot even see it unless you look on an angle in certain lighting! Love it and your new kitchen!

So far, it’s looking gorgeous.

Tiling is finished. I have never splashed out on tile before usually keeping it very simple with subway tile. This time a designer friend of mine taught me about texture and the tile makes a massive difference. Also unlaquered brass faucet which will patena with age

The counters still remind me of a blue cheese I want to devour and your tile reminds me of brie rind. In my mind, these are both fantastic associations. Great brass faucet. My you enjoy it as it patinas.

Keep posting these pics. I love seeing your kitchen evolve. So many finishes that are different than the same old same old. Exciting.

Are the tiles actually ridged or are the little lines on the surface?

Tiles are Ann Sacks and they have a ridge in them but not too pronounced.

I immediately recognized those backsplash tiles - I know someone who has them in her guest bathroom - I've looked at them for one of my fireplace updates (I have four to do!)

Is that a cutting board built into your black granite countertop on your island - or is it just a piece of paper? If it is a cutting board, are you able to remove it - or is it permanently attached to the slab? I'd love to see closer photos of it (+ learn more about it) if it's a cutting board - I've been toying with adding one on my island.

So the cutting board is a 24x24x6 boos block. It’s a design I had in a previous kitchen and I love it, it gives a centre for chopping and prep. It’s permanently fixed and sits 1/16 above the granite.

Remodel Addict - I thought it was a cutting board - but then I wasn't sure. The raised edge sort of made it look as if something had just been placed on top of the island countertop - but then I thought that you would have removed anything like that before taking your photos!

I'd really like to have one on my island - over by the slide in range.

I assume that you are able to do just a light sanding to remove cut lines a few times - maybe it doesn't ever need one? How long did you have the one in the U.K.?

I've seen so many cutting boards that look like pieces of art. I know that Boos is the place to go for butcher block/wood countertops. It makes sense to use them for adding a cutting board to an island!

I had the one in the UK for around 4 years and don't think it ever needed sanding. Yes it looked a little used but nothing that would be a concern, at the end of the day it does not get much abuse in a residential situation. Most of the time it was used to make toast and sandwiches :-)

The view and odd shape of the old kitchen was the reason for doing the remodel. The old exterior wall has one regular sized window - the main wall also faces west so beautiful sunsets.

Cooked for the first time last night, still trying to work everything out. Still feels sterile - need bar stools, coffee machine etc

Most there - the raw brass handles from rejuvenation where expensive but beautiful

The hardware is gorgeous! Good splurge!
