Richer colors needed on exterior facelift?

last year

You folks have never failed me AND saved me $$$ on big time mistakes. Help with exterior wow trim colors please!
See original house photo.
See new facelift design.
See new entrance proposal (by me)
The whole light gray facade could be improved with richer gutter, eaves, window trim, portico colors, and columns, yes?
I don’t have the talent for this. Would love your ideas. Btw, the original turquoise doors have the same paint on them since 1954. Cool, huh?

You have a nice simple but lovely MCM ranch why do you want to have a modern farmhouse look which BYW is already dted . I love MCM ranch I own one and I would never do that potico on it No window boxes , nice windows some picture ones. Waht is the materil is it stone of siding for the exterior . Landscaping will bring out the best of the house style. This is my fave for inspirtion notice the garage door , entry door , the window style and the type of cover over the entry . too.

Thx for ur perspective. I wish I had someone with an eye for an appreciation of the original, but obviously my designer did not quite hit the mark. I simply asked for keeping as much of the original as possible, but adding more of a grand entrance to an otherwise bland front design.I’m so lost

It is a a limestone ranch and will remain as such. agreed no window boxes.
I have simply never liked the two entrance façade and have always thought our home needed more of an entrance. It seems a long rambling Ranch without much focus. What kind of a facelift would you suggest? I am listening and value your opinion.
I definitely do not like the woodwork in the portico that they drew, but what do you think of the new entrance I found? But not white, stained. Please continue with your line of thought.

Could anyone do a simple rendering? I’m very visual. Apparently my contractors design could be a mistake?

Your house doesn't need a grand entrance.

The yard needs work, and if you say more about the house, like why the 2 front doors, and post a few more pictures -- stand off to the side, like left of the driveway, I'm sure you will get more ideas.

Is matching limestone available? Whatever is done will look best if it looks original and not an obvious addition.

Sorry your house now is great, the proposed addition is not. Yes you need darker trim, maybe something like urbane bronze or similar. Love your door color but I would paint the storm doors too if you need them. If they are screen doors get phantom screens. Put the money you were going to spend on the porch into Hardscapes and landscaping. I could see a circular drive on this house (controversial on this forum) or a landscaped terrace area. Regardless move the plantings away from the house and vary the height and texture more.

I guess Im odd man iut because I like your rendering. the house is so long it breaks that up and tak

Takes away the confusion of which door is the front door.

I am not a landscape architect or an expert at rendering, but I think landscape and making the walkway bolder and expanding the stairs could define the front entrance and add a world of curb appeal without doing anything structural to the house.

Here is my attempt to picture what I am saying.

The front door is the one furthest from the driveway? That is awkward. Do people actually use the front door? Do you want people to use the front door? My sister-in-law has a similar house and they chose to pay little attention to the front door. They emphasize the secondary door which enters into the family room, next to the kitchen. If you want to direct people to the front door you definitely need to give that entrance more of a presence, but I agree with the other commenters that the rendering you were given is not an optimal solution. Did you ask them for a large front patio? If you had one would you actually sit out there? The inspiration you gave them is out of character for your house. The rendering you got would work if you remove the visible trusses and scale it back. I think the roof pitch on it is too steep, but it's hard to tell because of the perspective. The pitch should be consistent with the rest of the roof. And the other commenters have a good point about the landscaping as well. Once you decide on the entrance you definitely need to up the landscaping game.

“Remove the visible trusses and scale it back?” Could you expound on that? Which visible trusses? Thank you very much.

The proposed portico looks completely out of scale with the rest of the house because to get a gabled portico of that size, you need a gable higher than your roof. I note that your third picture, which appears to be the planned porch, has completely different proportions than the portico pictured in the second photo. Once you change the proportions, the portico is going to look pretty funny.

To have a porch of that size, you need a nearly flat roof or it will overwhelm the rest of the house, being higher than the rest of the roof. Once you have a nearly flat roof, you're not going to get a farmhouse or craftsman look. So, if you need the porch, I'd look at MCM designs, because they are likely to have the proportions that fit your house.

Any portico/porch is going to look tacked on, because of the roof angle. You could consider a stand-alone patio/gazebo for sitting.

This one is quite small, but a lot closer to what you should be thinking about.

Your house doesnt need a portico or any other grand entryway. Its a very pretty house, just the way it is. Leave it alone. Put your money into a much better and nicer looking yard. Your yard needs landscaping and nicer shaped beds, and a nicer walk way. It also needs some flowering trees (smaller type) in the yard itself. Find a landscape designer, and pay him for a design, that you can do yourself, or hire others to do for you, little by little, if thats necessary. No farm house trends for that house. It needs to stay true to itself.

The unbroken length of your house's roof line is exactly what makes it attractive. It isn't plain, it's elegantly simple. Don't break up that long lean line with a gable.

I have been mulling all of your suggestions over for a good 24 hours. I hear what you’re saying and you’re all saying the same thing and I trust that. Looks like my designer and I are going to have to have a conversation. Thank you, thank you thank you
