Do not accentuate the grooves. Paint it all one color and bring in color with accents and hardware.

Your son obviously wants to accentuate the grooves. Why discourage what he wants to do? If he ends up not liking it, it is easy to paint over.

Is this your son’s house? Or your house, his bathroom? Either way, I’d let him try to accentuate the grooves, say, on one drawer. It’s easy enough to paint over. But what will you do with that small ledge of wood on the countertops? If this was me, I’d keep the vanity as is - if it is in good shape. Or, I’d paint one color if it needed it refreshing.

Thanks for the feedback! It is my son’s house. I think they would be putting a new countertop in as well.

I like that the vanity matches the wood trim. I’d leave it alone and just use the new countertop for a major change.

Here are my suggestions:

- Paint the vanity black (the grooves will be less visible). Do not outline the grooves.

- Replace the countertop for either white quartz (undermount sink) or white melamine with also a rectangular sink

- Replace the hardware (fill the holes before painting) and faucet for brass

- Place a rectangular black framed mirror

- A linear brass sconce above the mirror
