We have done several demos over the years and requirements will differ from town to town.

Generally, for steel wall pools the walls and the concrete collar must be removed and disposed of.

For concrete pools, some towns want the entire structure removed and some are ok with the walls being demolished and the floor left in place. Some want the wall material removed and some will allow fist size pieces from the wall to be buried.

The material to fill the pool may have to be approved as it is most likely will be trucked in from a remote area.

There is no set building code for something this.

If there is no set requirement from the town, then do as you see fit. Their "suggestion" is very vague. Perhaps speak with a building official.

I would break up the concrete floor mainly to allow an exchange of ground water through it.

I'm just curious at what point they want to inspect and exactly what they want to see.

Thank you Mystic Pool! The clerk said the inspection would be at the time all the pool was removed. I asked why there is an inspection if there is absolutely no demo code. He said he had to ask the building commissioner and that guy suggested it be totally removed and said they are not like other communities where you could break bottom up and use for fill. I said I have a hard time justifying the cost of total removal based on a suggestion. All the farther I got at city hall.
