How often will you use the table? You have seats at the bar for everyday meals.

I would put a table up to the windows and have 4 chairs...add some drapes and you have a dining room (almost). Set up the entry table as the bar and use the cart for serving and clearing the table.

How many seats are needed for dining? Have you considered a round table?

I would choose a round, glass top table.

Round would look good in that space.

The draperies framing the windows are a nice touch. Not sure what that is on the ceiling above the table -a vent? Is it directly above it? May not be able to install a fixture depending on what that is and location of it.

Do you see how many rectangles are in your space.................? Your table should not be rectangle.

Before buying another table, try moving it towards the living room a bit, as I feel it being so close to the island doesn't help and don’t forget chairs/centrepiece will soften/break up the lines.

If interested, suggest moving side table to other end of sectional/add lamp, add drapes to soften the window (try Ikea), and remove the hooks/picture. You want to draw the eye to the LR (add textured cushions) and you’ll create a more balance room in general and it will be money better spent. It’s important to look at the whole.

what are the dimensions of the table? how many people need to be seated usually? I kind of like the table...however I would push the long side against the wall and carefully pick chairs..one on each end and 2 on the longer side for a total of 4. is that enough seating? when folks are over...line the chairs up elsewhere and lay out food as people will mill around w plates in hand and gravitate to the couch area...... the kitchen is attractive.....I'd emphasize the length of the space you have and good looking kitchen ..... get the table off to the side......I have a long space in a 2nd home that includes kitchen / open living space and on through to a front area w lots of windows and view.......its fine....enjoy it...push the table over ....search for small scale but comfortable chairs...thats actually the challenge. Put the drinks cart where the vacuum cleaner is right now...and use the rectangle table that you already own against that bit of wall...then look for chairs. another thing about table over to the side...computer users can plug in and sit if they arent entranced by tv or movie every single time [ how do I know about that?]

often the spot on the wall above table can be a fun/ pretty spot for wall decor also....create a little zone with things you love. [ not sure if they eat at this table but anyway]

You might look at trying a round, or oval, dining room table. You have a lot of sharp corners and lots of boxes/rectangles already in the space.

Oval might work well in that space. But I would cut out a “paper table” the size you think might work (round or oval - no more sharp edges as Beverly pointed out) and start shopping.

Try not to mimic the cabinet color either.

I might actually take your existing table and put the short end against the wall next to the fridge cabinet. That would make the space feel more open and you wouldn't have to dodge the table to get to the living room.

How many people do you need to sit on an everyday basis? Have you tried turning the table and putting it against the island?

Try it for a white and see what you think?

Personally, I love a round table. You could try taking some cardboard and cutting a circle 42 - 48" around and putting that on top of your table to see what that feels like to walk around.
