I would do a coat closet to do 2 things hold the coat and boot mess and create a bit of an enty so replace the cabinet beside the door on the right with a small coat closet .Remove the chaise piece from the oversized sectional and all the little cabinets It looks like you have a projecter TV so have that viewing area where you now have coats. BTW one coat and one pair of shoes per person all the rest in the bedrooms always in fact best if all went to bedrooms then no need for a coat closet or hooks. An idea which could be useful is to remove everything but the basics - lounge and desk under the stairs. Then add back one item at a time. This way you can see what you really need in the space, re visit where things go and how items can be stored. If the coffee table no longer works, the storage ottoman could be better. The plant might be better draping down the side of the desk, with a co-ordinated color in picture frames. Maybe a digital frame would work best for you - one frame but hundreds of photos to view. The dangly name tags might be better as decor at on the end of the cupboard run. The wind chime - on the patio to tinkle in the wind! Stroller needs another home, or folded to find a home. As suggested keep the clothing and shoes seasonal, do kids need more than couple sets of shoes at the door - sneakers and sandals for summer, with the sandals swapped with gum boots for the muddy winter months!

I can only add to the above ideas is smaller scale furniture, especially the sectional. They offer no more seating than a sofa except the small child who likes to sit in the corner, than spreads out to the rest of the space. Take everything out (temporarily) to take photos and draw measured space to post here.

In looking closer at your pictures, the under stair storage might need a revisit - do you have shelving there? Do you want shelving there? Have a think about how you use the space you have there. Maybe a mix of shelving and upright storage? Either way, it would be neater closed off. A simple tension rod with a curtain would do the trick - it would be the spot for a folded stroller!

Are you able to get a small sofa (or loveseat), and two chairs? You might be able to do a better layout with pieces that are easy to move instead of one large piece of furniture.
