I have grown herbs with seeds parsley, basil and thyme in small pots on my window sill, watering daily if needed. It gets the morning sun. I usually let them get a good size and later transplant them into the garden later. I rarely just keep them in the small pot. Its usually just to get it started. I have some Oakleaf lettuce on my window sill at the moment.

I do have some plants in very small pots (auriculas, succulents, lewisias) but parsley, coriander, basil does much better in 5 litre pots (the same size as most container roses are sold in). Anything smaller is too difficult to keep on top of watering and there just isn't enough root-room.
