I am spraying doors and want a smooth cabinet finish. I am using a Graco Ultimate Quick Shot with a FFLP 514 tip that came with the sprayer for primer. I am waiting for additional tips to arrive from Graco.

I had purchased some primed 1x6 to practice on and the Graco Ultimate Quick Shot sprayed Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Enamel beautifully with a FFLP 410 tip. The factory primer on the 1x6 sanded perfectly and I suspect it was oil based. I do not want to run an oil-based primer through my Graco Ultimate Quick Shot.

I find that Cover Stain oil-based primer sprays well from their standard aerosol can, but the fan is only about 1-1/2”. They do offer a very large can with a 10” spray fan, but it has a very poor dispersal pattern and constantly clogs.

I will sand the primer before I shoot the urethane enamel topcoat.

I went down to Dunn-Edwards today and picked up two quarts of DECOPRIME. I shot the first coat and so far the Decoprime is looking far superior to the Sherwin Williams Wall & Wood Primer. It’s a 100 % acrylic primer. Let’s see how it dries and sands after a second coat.
