I voted for floral rug. But, really any similar rug with multiple colors will help. I think the checkerboard is not helping with adding warmth and coziness. I actually think you’d tired of it quickly. As well, I’d have a larger rug - I can’t suggest a size because I don’t know the room or furniture dimensions.

I love the look of a bold dark green with your room. Take a hint from you plants. Good Luck

Also, if any one has any recommendations on other ways to add color to this space. These are just my random ideas.

We might suggest looking at some other rug options. If you want to add some color, then look at good rugs with other colors aside from grey and white. You could do a rug with blue, yellow, grey, green, etc. Note these rugs used in designs of ours, included below.

I'm not a fan of the checkered rug. You have alot of nutral furniture with relatively straight shapes. IMO you need a softer look addition in the way of soft-looking rounded shapes and some color. Pick a nice rug which you like. Then find som art that makes you smile or enjoy looking at. So far your taste seems to lean toward simple and modern. This is a good way to add som color to your room. You've got a good base to start with, Layering decor and color should be fun and a great way to show your fun side. Good Luck.

Like Barbara Almandarz I'm also not a fan of the checkered rugs. For your room would suggest a traditional oriental rug with lots of color and pattern.
