I wonder what makes it a modern farm house?

But it has all the qualification for a modern farmhouse; a roof, walls, several windows, and a couple doors. Many people call that a modern farmhouse.

No, no, no! A modern farmhouse has white siding (preferably board and batten and horizontal) and BLACK windows! Please people!!!

I thought anything with a roof could be called a modern farmhouse. Many years ago when I was looking to buy my first house everything was called a cape cod whether it was one story or two or anything in between.

Actually I find most realtors call anything a Colonial. :(

Someone's built a small neighborhood of Modern Farmhouses near me. They have double windows, recessed porches, complex footprints, and asphalt shingle roofs -- things that just don't appear on farmhouses. BUT they are all white with black roofs -- that color scheme seems to be the only requirement to call something a Modern Farmhouse.

Here in New England a farmhouse evolves according to need and resources over the years. Frequently it follows “big house, little house, back house, barn.”
