Some stacked books, large oversized vases or candles - I would measure the openings and then go to Home Goods and see what you like - larger and fewer items will look better I think

They do look odd spaced apart. Do you need that outlet to be exposed for some reason? There are articles on Houzz about this topic. Here's one to get you started:

Well Miss Patricia, I didn’t BUY the shelves. I’ve had them for years and wanted to repurpose them. They obviously are not positioned permanently but only to showcase the items themselves. My question was what items go on the shelves? Not design my space. I’m not a consultant as you are. That’s why I come to Houzz for ideas, information, and to be taught from HELPFUL people. Furthermore, I will start another post when and wherever I choose because I can. Try being kinder and less condescending.

Nice examples in the link from kandrewspa (yes, HELPFUL!). I try to keep shelf styling fairly simple since it looks more ”calming” and pleasing to me.

This might also be helpful for placement/spacing.

In my last house I needed a bench with a built-in look. I used IKEA's billy bookcases.

Try turning the bookcases horizontally to the floor. I had a cushion made for the top(s) and then filled the compartments with smalls...baskets, a few books, plants, etc.

Still horizontal to the floor, stack one on top of the other. Now you have more of a console look. Lamps on top, art on wall and don't put anything in the cubbies at all.

This piece is selling for $1200.00+

You could use them horizontally place as a sofa table by floating the sofa out into the room.

You might go through your home and see if you have items that are sort of scattered throughout, and then combine them on the shelves into a cohesive collection.

If you can't use them to hold up the TV then sell them.

See if you have any travel souvenirs, books, decor items that you can place in these shelving units. If you don't go to a Home Goods type of store and find items you like, preferably colour coordinated would look better.

See @beverlyfladeziner I appreciate you. You saw the room in a previous post and still gave positive feedback about the shelves in my existing space of real pictures. That is professionalism and artwork detail!

Admittedly, a bit difficult to figure out what's happening in the room since it appears empty but for the shelves and a reclining dark brown sofa! Which led me to click Kim Bond and see other posts; most seem to be item specific!

But, there was this revealing K.B comment........

"Hey Family Hey! its time for my every 5 year redo. I have this Glidden Forest Khaki wall paint. Recently installed these darker LVP floors. Ive been thinking of dark grey or dark brown reclining couch. SOooo. i am seeking opinons on decor............"

There were a lot of helpful hints as to the shelves above , I will add only this:

I am all for repurposing. I am all for the fun of bargain finds, curb rescues turned to fun projects that yield something useful and lovely for a home!

Back to "every five years"........

Why? Because it is fun, or because it needs to be done? Because you never really finish to total satisfaction?

May I suggest? More context please, about the room. You're worried about the shelves, but the shelves and the couch are JUST two elements in the room, not the whole of the room.

Show the room in pictures from more angles. Add a drawing with all the dimensions of walls, windows, openings. In a perfect world, and money no object ? What would your room look like?! Show some rooms you love! Do a little internet surfing! It would have a rug, a coffee table, lamps....Tv etc? That's the purpose of a drawing with measurements AND the inspiration pictures - so that it can at some point become a room you really enjoy, and HOPEFULLY, not one you feel the need to rip up and redo in five years. To do that? You have to help the community help you, because there are no mind readers here and we only know what you show, and what you tell us.

One more thing: You found the first answer not very helpful, yet in a way it "said" exactly what I just said . As usual, the comment was blunt, void of punctuation with nary a single word spelled correctly. As usual, it assumed the op should know what to do to get a truly helpful answer. To some ( yes SOME) degree I understand that, or we are helping YOU design in a vacuum void of information. All of which simply means Houzz is a two way street of ideas, opinion and it's nice to use full sentences , correct spelling, so thoughts are clearly conveyed. It is VERY nice when we get a full picture of what a poster is trying to accomplish - and then that poster takes what appeals, and ignores what does not or can not even be understood........ in typo filled pseudo English : )

Miss Jan Moyer: THIS is exactly the explanation I would have been receptive to. You gave the reasons in a kind professional way of why all the elements needed to be met and I appreciate you. The room is pretty much empty but if you scroll up in the comments to Miss Beverly’s comment, that is the entire room before the couch was delivered from my kitchen’s perspective. Thank you for being kind.

I didn’t mention the other walls because I have a vision for them already. I have a lot of fillers I removed for the floors to be installed like a blanket holder, rolling bar, and POSSIBLY an electric fireplace I can paint and redo. I just don’t like mounting TVs to the wall. I am seeking good side tables. I just want a simple but comfortable minimalist look.
