Any help is GREATLY Appreciated

last year

Hey y'all looking for some (a lot) of help because decorating is definitely not in my skill set. I need some renter friendly ideas to make this outdated place feel like home! Any suggestions to make it look more updated or tips/ideas to lean into the"vintage" look. especially ideas for color pallets! I'm open to literally any and all suggestions! Thanks in advance

If you are renting this apartment, what are you allowed to do? paint the cabinets? we need a bit more info as to how far you can go with this, and the place is empty so we don't know your style.

Greens and blues look great with brown. Do you have existing wall art, furniture or rugs that you will be using?

If you add some pictures to your idea books, it will clarify by what you mean by vintage. "Vintage" can mean anything to mid-century modern sputnik lamps, to Victorian carved furniture. Especially since you want both updated and vintage. Let us better know your desired style.

Cute apartment! I would fill with colorful prints, including in the kitchen, and add some colorful rugs. Put some colorful stuff on the counters as well, ie vases, cups, pots etc. Add a couple planters to the living room. You can get cheap planters and then spray paint. You can really spruce things up with color.

@lisedv unfortunately I don’t think I can paint or do much of anything without the landlords written consent but am open to using peel and sticks and other renter friendly options. I’m also comfortable with removing stuff as long as I replace it before I leave. Yes it’s very empty I apologize but I tend to lean towards mid-century, boho, cozy styles and either neutral or muted colors. But really am open to anything! I’ll post a few pics of what I’m thinking of furniture but am open to buying everything new as well.

@partim I have a few things that I might bring but am probably going to be buying most everything new. I’m not the best with knowing my style it tends to lean towards mid century boho rustic. I just dont want the furniture to look super out of place if that makes sense.

A few ideas for your new apartment considering there's not much you can change in a rental.

    KITCHEN:

I noticed that the drawer cabinet on the left of the black dishwasher has either been replaced or painted black. Therefore, perhaps you'd be able to paint the remaining cabinets black and install chrome or either polished of satin nickel pulls.

I show a peel & stick wallpaper as a backsplash.

    BATHROOM:

Not much done there except to replace the knobs with black ones and accessorize the room.

    LIVING ROOM:

Everything shown in the sketch has been taken off the Target website. Some of the items are from Studio McGee collection - nothing is very expensive.

@lisedv did you use a program or something to create this?

Large floor plants can transform the look of a room to feel more homey, personal, less rental.

Get a very simple bed and headboard with terrific bedding that you love. It is easy to swap out a bedspread or duvet as your move from rental to rental. You will not continue to love throughout the years the bed you posted.

Also get simple sofa and comfortable chairs that can be styled with different pillows depending on where you move to.

Get great curtains, hang clusters of images you like - framed post cards, artwork, paintings, by your bathroom sink, in your kitchen, your entryway, living room. It is easier to swap these items out and change them as you move. Hang with 3M command strips.

What were the pics with all the junk for? I assume you are the renter so no usually you cannot start painting anything without permission and for sure not painting kitchen cabinets I dod not see a black painted cabinet in that spac e. I do not like the bed you are thinking of but we know nothing about you so maybe share a bit about who you are and what you like .IMO peel and stick is acheaper look than waht is ther e. I do agree get bed you love and bedding you love those things can go with you whenever you move. Visit Ikea if you are on a budget they have great pricing for basic stuff we all need to make a home. BTW BoHo is nothing like MCM but you can mix some of the ideas of both . A simple sofa with some fun piloows can do wonders

Patricia is right... there is no black painted cabinet in the kitchen. I just took a second look. and the pull on the dishwasher didn't seem to go all the way to the end on left side so it looked to me like a cabinet with 1 drawer. Sorry... I guess the idea of painting the kitchen is out!

Large original artworks are a fantastic way to bring personality and distinctiveness to any room. They serve as captivating focal points and can transform a space, adding depth and character that enhances the overall decor. Investing in original art allows you to express your personal style and create an environment that feels truly unique.
